Thanks mate.

Only major problem is delivery.

How hard is it to carry a tv? Its gona be well heavy to carry it n the underground.

Whos going to be buying a tv from RS from here and which TV?

oof, let the debate begin! Worth noting that the technology of both LCD and Plasma is improving constantly, so check the dates of the various plasma vs lcd articles as many of them are more than 12 months old and woefully outdated.

Last year I bought an LCD and its brilliant, if I was going to buy this year, I'd buy a plasma as I dont like backlit blacks (LCD's have backlights that are always on, so even when displaying black there is still light shining through screen, so black looks grey - not a really big deal, until you see a high quality Plasma, then you see what you're missing!)

Be very wary of store displays as TV's can easily be set up to look poorer if they dont have as high a markup!
#19
is it possible to get these price matced?

Would they have the NEW sale price labelled on the TV or old RRP price.
#20
It IS Possible to Price Match :)

As Delivery is Costly Online, In Store may be a option as it is much easier although stock may be limited

LCD vs Plasma.

Both have their advan & disadvantages. LCD havng more in my opinion.

Let me state disadvantages for both first.

Plasma- may burn, use up more electrcity- thereefore higher bills, tend to be more expensive prevsly but price of LCD and plasma narrowing. Less people have plasma due to LCD being more reliable less problems of burning out. Not available in smaller screen size under 40"
Plasma are better in the dark, more brigter- higher contrast ratio- most of the time compared to LCD

LCD- not as clear as plasma when viewing. maybe more pricier then plasma currently.
advantages- more energy efficent then plasma, last longer-more hours.
Sony ZX1 - 9mm thinnest LCD tv, is the most efficent tv, excllent refreseh rate 200Hz, they come in 40",52" availabl in Jan 2009 , price = £2300+

OLED- these are the most expesnive, and the thinnest, most efficent. Sony 11" for £1500 only out

From that statement I can confirm that your knowledge of AV products is cack. The best TV money can currently buy is a Plasma, but there are good and bad plasma and LCD tvs. When thinking of buying just search the model you are thinking of in google and you can learn a great deal ;-)

With regards the TV's on offer, the 32" Sony is OK, but is their bottom of the range model. It is no better than the £300 Samsung that you can just walk in and buy without having to get up and queue at the crack of dawn on boxing day. The 40" Sony though is a great TV for £500. Sony have already issued a statement that in the new year their wholesale costs to the UK are going up due to the poor pound, as such this TV is unlikely to get much cheaper for at least a few months

LCD v PLASMA
Depends If you want a crystal clear sharp image ( LCD )
OR
A "warmer " slightly softer image (plasma)

both are good and TBH the "burnt" screens are a bit scarce now

remember to have your plasma regularly filled up with gas though ;-)

goog arguments keep the thread going !

John Lewis cannot price match next week as no one is in the office, so they tell me, so an extra 50 quid on the 40 inch bravia for a 5 year gty and it's the same terms as John Lewis. Not bad i think for 550, and yes even being superseeded by the w and 4500 series, still a decent lcd.

I'm pretty disgusted actually - I know the Panasonic TX32LXD80 TV was on their web site for £379.95 only a couple of weeks ago.

Now they claim it is £349.95 with £100 saving. Very naughty!

If it is a good price and you want it then buy it, but don't be fooled by their claims of saving lots of money.
#28
So are these only available to VIP members, as it says at the bottom of the website.?
#29

Is that why my 2 and 1/2 year old plasma is still showing such a good picture I'm not bothered about going HD?

If the box for the 40" is the same size as the one I got, you won't be getting it into a car. It's enormous.

The Denon 1909 is a very good amp. Sounds amazing. It's just a pain to set up.
#38
why do you say plasmas are cack im after new tv in the jan sales want at least 42" but would like 50" depending on price and not sure what to get lcd or plasma ????

IMPORTANT!

Plasmas should not be transported laid down!
If you can not fit it upright in a car, (it didn't even fit my estate) get a van or as I did, a taxi, london cab type and make sure it can't fall down.
Good luck

RS seem to have no stock. All their brances keep saying wrere gona get them tommorw. I even called them up a few days ago, and they said tommorw. Dont know if they are just chatting.
