nice find for 50p :)

Saw this in the paper but having just gone through looking at surge protection, I'd only use these cheap ones as quasi extension leads and not for high value electronics. I would not be putting my LCD, PC and stereo through it if you know what I mean but it would be ok with a hair drier etc.

Agreed. I just picked them up for general household use. At 50p, things can't be that bad...lol

So what would you recommend? I have stereo / PS3 / Freeview / HD TV currently sharing one of these without the individual switches I basically want one thats safe and has individual switches..

Hmm - I'd do the opposite. The problem with bad contacts on cheap extension leads is fire caused by high-current devices such as hairdryers. Maybe in the case of a hairdryer it's not so bad because you'd notice the thing bursting into flames, but devices with heaters left unattended I would worry much more about.

I've yet to see any evidence that "surge protection" is anything more than a complete marketing gimmick. I wouldn't worry about it.

I misread the title and thought it meant individually switched sockets - been and bought one and obviously they're not. Just a heads-up for anyone who misreads it like me

And just out of interest, the one I bought has an Argos product code (982/7796) on the back!

EDIT: And a quick Google shows this extension at Argos was £12.99 in Dec 2006

You can get individual switched sockets but not this one. Sorry if any confusion dude,

I think these will be hard to find, as these were part of an electricals clearance about a month ago. It included bulbs and light/power switches/ fuses and adapters. I bought one for £2 then which was 75% off.

Do you know of any cases of successful claims on such insurance?
