bought one of these last christmas and i can really recommend them...saves pulling an individual plug from the mains socket...which ever appliance you need to use is powered by just the flick of a switch.
i have mine screwed to the side of a wall unit in my living room and it saves you having to bend down too...gunna do the same on a wardrobe in the bedroom this time.

It doenst have surge protection.

Surge protection can last a very small amount of time before its worn out if you get a surge early in the extension lead. Only worth having when there is a light on when its still protected otherwise you dont know when it is off.

I prefer a UPS which moderates the electricity flow but of course they are expensive. Even an old ups with a dead a battery that makes sure the voltage is 230V is better than surge protection.

Got one of these for my joggler a few weeks ago, it's great.
Cheapest I could find, the only other thing close is a multi socket brick in wickes for £4-5 that has 3 switches on the top.
