Laptops get hot ! After an unfortunate experience with a (Branded !) cooling tray - which wrecked my previous Laptop I will never plug any mechanical device into my Laptops USB ports again! - New set up ,extension lead , this plug to the Laptop , USB to the cooling tray . Masterplug have the" any connected device" warranty so seems safe to me and at £8.60 delivered from Wizzywoo , an Amazon Merchant seller - a bargain and no need to spend £10 with Amazon to get the free postage . Great reviews but seems its a bit short on power for charging 2 fairly high demand things at once . Simple for me -cool the Laptop when I'm using it ,charge the MotoG and Nexus when I go to bed .

That's true ,but (just for a change ! ) there was nothing else I wanted from Amazon :)

Thanks ordered , like the idea of two USB Ports you can charge to devices at once and
still leave the 3 pin socket free Oh prefer white .

Who has black plugs these days ? :(

Not 100% but think these are less than £8 in Sainsburys in-store. they are very good any road.

I've got the black version. I use it for the surge protection feature, hardly ever used the USB sockets. Great piece of kit though.

This only has 1A output which is shared across the two ports (so 500mA each if you have two devices plugged in which isn't enough to charge most modern devices in a reasonable time, if at all). You'll need to check the charging requirements of your devices before opting for this.

I can confirm this. It's a feature in more or less all Masterplug products. It's a shame really as the plug itself is great. Like I mentioned above, I don't use the USB ports but if you want to purchase this for the USB feature then it's good to note this.

It charged a iPhone 3GS, but not an iPhone 5.

And I'll third it. It's almost useless for charging a tablet on it's own. It won't charge either my Nexus 7 or my Xperia Z while they are on, and charges very slowly when they are turned off.
It's a pity, because it's well made, and looks nice.

They say "more haste less speed " , probably not ideal for those who are permanently welded to their Smartphone/Tablet and need to charge them in 10 minutes I'm not that fussed about charging time . I dare say you can get a Chinese version of this cheaper with enough USB current to speedily charge your devices and start a small fire too . oO

Would it be enough to power Chromecast?

But Amazon only offer 1 years warranty for marketplace items. Not sure either we can get full warranty if claim direct from Masterplug

Chromecast officially requires an 850mA power supply. Having said that my chromecast is working fine plugged into my TV USB slot which is only supposed to supply 500mA, but your mileage may vary.

I bought 8 of these items in black a while back when sainsburys was selling then for £1(thanks to HUKD)!

At least 1 of the lights burn out after while.

It wont charge an Ipad air ..... well probably take a day or so.

Well worth it at £1 but at current price I will give it a miss since not enough charging for a tablet
#18
I read up on these a few weeks back. Even though there are two USB ports you can only use one at a time!!! Crazy!!

To be fair you can use both at once , but it wont charge an IPad /tablet etc very quickly if you do (1 Amp total output) .

I bought two of this (in black). I doubt it even outputs 1 amp. It can't even power this TP-Link portable router when the battery is very low.

I have the black one and use it for my chromecast. Often charge my phone on the other usb at the same time and both seen to work.

I have one. Got it for £7.50 from sainsburys. I use it to charge my Nexus 4 overnight, along with an iPhone 5.

Its ideal for my needs, but I've had to mask up the 2 lights on it as its very bright in a bedroom at night.

For those wanting one with a bit more output capacity, then this 15W version for £7.95 has both 1A & 2.1A outputs.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Universal-3-1A-Charger-Adapter/dp/B00EO5BSKI/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1403629296&sr=8-9
OK, so it doesnt have anti-surge capability, but it will charge anything you throw at it

You wouldn't need a time machine if you saw the deal at the time. :p

Saying something was cheaper on a one off clearance (probably a previous discontinued model) is absolutely pointless . Maybe we should have a site called -Hot Deals you could have got several weeks ago :| Don't think it would catch on though :(

Unfortunately, all my smoke alarms are currently monitoring my Tesla charging point, my smouldering chip pan, & my Thatcher effigy.

Cant see any reason why this charger would be more susceptible to smoking than any other - at least not from the Amazon reviews, but there again I guess that burnt people don't write bad reviews :p

Its the same product, I have 5 of these.

For those people who bought this product for £2 from Sainsburys, means they had a better deal.

Your deal means a spending of £10 or more to get this product for £8.60.

You can buy from HERE for £8.99 free 5 day delivery.

or HERE £6.99 + £1.99 P&P.

Surge protection - nonsense, does not work on these type of devices or extension leads. Marketing gimmick

Got mine and got the tech data sheet with it ,it is surge protected -do you want the full info ? It does fit the socket ,it does charge a Moto G and a Nexus 7 at the same time ,and if it were not surge protected Masterplug would be pretty daft to offer a lifetime guarantee on any connected device . Rustyspoons I would love to hear your reply -maybe you could enlighten us and elaborate on your comment - I think Masterplug would be interested too !

Yeah your probably right all my house sockets are the wrong size I wondered why my fridge doesn't work. Do you work for the company, did you check my masterplug before they sent it to me?

Don't be silly ! unless they make different size plugs , which I doubt , then you badly need a qualified electrician to check your sockets . No actually I work as a signaller for Network Rail . If it doesn't fit and your sockets are OK ,return it -no hassle with Amazon - If you're just Trolling ,Troll on but make a better job of it next time ,this feeble attempt does make you look rather silly (to be polite !)(_;)
