Matador is the sister company of Continental. The Matador tyres use the same rubber and resin as Continental tyres. I have currently done 8,000 miles on a full set of 4 ( 225/40R18 92Y) and are about half worn. I previously had Continental sports on my Focus ST and these Matadors seem to match or even beat grip in both wet and dry conditions. The tyres also the extend alloys slightly to save any damage to your alloys when clipping curbs.

The MP 46 HECTORRA 2 Tyre tread is designed for higher and luxury class vehicles with ultra high performance for summer application. Its designation for operation on high performance automobiles at high speeds is based on its excellent braking properties and reliable maneuverability on wet as well as dry surfaces, as well as its high resistance to aquaplaning. Operational safety of these high-performance cars is one of the most important criteria for designing this segment of tyres.

MATADOR will introduce the MP46 to the UHP market segment in the following sizes 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20”, in the highest performance categories:
V up to 240 km/h, W up to 270 km/h and Y up to 300 km/h.

Currently voted top on tyrereview.co.uk for Focus ST: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyres_For/Ford/Focus-ST.htm

Time you get these fitted, new valve, balanced etc and the old tyre disposed of your looking at £10 - £15 per corner depending on where you go.
Call it £100 all in, I am getting Kumho Ku31/39 tyres fitted locally for £94 with zero hassle, on one occasion they were not balanced right because one of my wheels has a slight buckle and after 2 weeks returned the car and re balanced FOC.
Now I know if you take a tyre you bought yourself and there are problems a week or two down the road it gives them all sorts of excuses such as poor tyre or we did not supply the tyre so cannot guarantee it etc.

In majority of cases probably be fine but for a possible saving of £5 a corner is it really worth the hassle unless you can fit yourself or know someone who can do it FOC.

That's fair enough if there is a brand you must have, what I find with local tyre fitters these days and certainly my regular is that they will come within a couple of quid of online supply only companies once they factor in their fitting charges, just tell them what you can buy them for direct......Nothing to lose and plenty to gain
