Hmm a cheap HD-DVD..the very format that is loosing the format war so they say..this surely would boost sales for HD-DVD as apposed to BluRay :giggle:
#18
Can anyone confirm that the release is region free (Don't think there is region locking on HD-DVD releases, but want to be sure)?

Thanks.

All that said its a good price for what you get ;)

One of the best features of HD DVD I think, particularly for us bargain hunters!

Dilemma...I have an order from Amazon for this at £19.49, by memory Gamestation don't do refunds on DVDs otherwise I'd be straight down there tomorrow to make sure I have a copy.

Great Price
#26
Hey guys. I can confirm this is 100% true. I got mine yesterday from my local Gamestation in Enfield Town, North London. I've included a pic of the reciept incase you guys dont believe me, cos im brand new here.

I was really suprised it was on the shelf (they told me it had just arrived in that morning, and they only had one copy) and was equaly amazed at the price, as I had seen the price on Play had rised, and assumed the £20ish pricing was a mistake.

Either way... great deal, seems to be more than a one off.

mod edit: please remove cashier name before posting image. Thanks.

Nope, the RRP is £69.99 and HMV will have them onsale at this price as of tomorrow.

They are giving away 100 HD-DVD players to the first 100 people at the Oxford store as well :)

If you look at the online shops now e.g Play, Amazon etc they have all put the price upto the price it should sell for ;)

Have you actually checked prices? The trilogy (not the ultimate one) has been selling for 40 pounds plus in the US/Canada, initially many stores were offering it in the UK for around 20 to 25 pounds but then ramped the price up, take Play:

http://www.play.com/DVD/HD%20DVD/4-/3439771/The-Complete-Matrix-Trilogy/Product.html

24.99 last week, 56 quid now.

I preordered mine from Amazon at 19.49 and it's shipped apparently, price is currently 53 pounds:

For 3 hd-dvds it is great and it will look great. You can get the ultimate one for about £45 on movietyme which doesn't look like its going to be released here.

As for HD-DVD losing the fact that paramount and dreamworks have gone exclusive to the format is going to make a huge difference to sales, things like Transformers and Shrek are HD-DVD only and with Matrix and Heroes going exclusive too it's looking pretty strong, and they're mainly the type of films you want to see in HD.

Once retailers other than ones on the Internet wise up to this a lot more would be shifted. Also seeming as HD-DVD's are cheaper to produce it wouldn't hurt to lower prices to boost sales, if only to win.

Showing as £58.99 at hmv.co.uk.... http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;-1;-1;-1&sku=700773

You gotta laugh! they sell SINGLE disc hddvd's in hmv in the high street for like £30, and yet Gamestation can sell THREE hddvd movies in the one pack for UNDER £20!
RIP OFF BRITAIN indeed!!

You have to remember that the deal isnt exclusive forever, its only an 18month deal.

Also from what i have herd The Matrix set will be coming out on Blu-Ray when it has profile 2.0 as standard.

I am not fussed as i am a Dual Format owner :p

I'll be surprised if it lasts, many companies have had this price initially and then put it way up.

Because they buy it dirt cheap in bulk - probs pay like £8 per boxset
#37
its prob not a buy in bulk, even a wholesaler cant push down that low on a new release with an rrp of 60+, the wholesale price would be about £40+

its most likely a computer error.
