This is my first deal so be kind
This device is the A02 and the predecesor of sandisks wireless pen drive
technology A03 sandish wireless pen drive and A04 wireless stick
however the price is way beneath what both those cost you can also get the
16gb version for 9.95 but since it comes with an SD card you might want to
swap in your own micro SD with an SD adapter and save 2 GBP. Please note you HAVE to update the firmware and the old company actively blocking this as this device is support closed a few years ago. theres a dropbox folder with the most uptodate firmware on done by a customer before maxell went bust.
I have used this after updating the firmware with a 200GB micro SD from my m5 phone and it had no problem reading it and its a xc tech card
It is my belief that logically it should be able to read a 512gb SDXC card although I dont have 200GBP to prove it.
It also allows you to stream to an iphone so you dont have to use itunes
just put your music in one folder and download the airstash app.
You can also connect manually and enter the intranet address supplied to get access on a none android or ios device

I'm sure I want one of these, but I can't think what I would actually use it for.

But I won't let that stand in my way.

Same price on ebay 291956307328. Note that it will work only with FAT32 formatted cards so no files >4GB. Does anyone know how many simultaneous users it allows? How about support for mkv, flac etc?

EDIT - manual says:
Video files including native support for Quicktime H.264, mp4 and m4v as well as AVI and MKV using VLC
Audio files supported include ACC, MP3, AIFF and WAV

Copied from a FAQ file. I cannot verify the accuracy of the statements but for what it's worth....

What video files will AirStash play?
AirStash is a file server that will serve any type of file. It is up to the client device to be able to decode and play the file. Your device may be able to play certain video files. Various apps may enable your device to play additional file types, such as CineXPlayer. If your device can natively play a video file, it should be able to be played to that same device via AirStash.

Can AirStash stream to multiple devices at the same time?
The AirStash is capable of 3 simultaneous standard definition (SD) video streams or 1 high definition (HD) video stream.

How many users can connect to AirStash at the same time?
A maximum of 8 users can connect to AirStash at the same time.

Suggest peeps read the comments on the airstash android app on google play. (not good)

I paid this for a 32GB Sandisk Connect stick from Cex. The write speed over USB was appalling so I don't have great hopes for its predecessor.

If this device is anything like the Kingston MobileLite you could connect to it via wifi then use ES File Explorer to browse the media files and just use VLC or anything else to play them.

Hi pengwyn, how long ago was it when you updated the Firmware from Dropbox. Also do you happen to have the firmware file saved that you could forward to me? I have asked Maxell EU but they haven't replied. Many thanks, Matt

Latest firmware uploaded to http://www.mediafire.com/file/68j4h1hdkdxzvmj/air1105.df2
Format an SD card as FAT32, copy the file to the root of the card, stick it in the device and plug it into a PC and it should update itself. Thanks to pengwyn for the file.
PS I accept no responsibility if you brick your device etc etc...

That's good of maxell they where at one stage actively blocking providing it even though when these where liquidated it's obvious that these would turn up in grey sales. I'm not saying they should provide support but this firmware is crucial to get the most out of what you've got. I think they don't want them to undermine Sandisks newer products glad common sense has prevailed

I have been testing the intranet on the device by playing a 1.5gb mp4 through the video player on my blackberry playbook all seems well. I would say that if you want more hd streams simultaneously then get the newer a04 device but if it's just you this seems great. Mp3 iPhone test next week.

It has the same file hashes as the other one so it’s all good.

Just copied a 9gb file to my 200gb micro sd in an sd adapter. This 4gb limit doesn't apply to the new firmware I didn't format the card it was from a mobile phone I think it's in exfat rather than fat32 which the new firmware allows

Full instructions on how to manually update firmware (courtesy of archive.org):

During an update, AirStash must not turn off due to power loss or the update may permanently damage the AirStash unit. To prevent this issue, please make sure AirStash is fully charged and do not disturb the AirStash unit until the update is complete.

Insert a memory card into your AirStash. If your current AirStash firmware is older than version 3.1.0 (ex: 1.1.8, 2.0.1), then you must use a 32GB SD card or less for this upgrade.
Repeat: You must use a 32GB SD card or less (FAT32 format) for this upgrade if your firmware version number is 3.1.0 or lower.
Connect your AirStash to a computer. It will show up as a USB drive on your computer.
Tip: If there are issues reading the SD card, it might cause the AirStash not to show up on your desktop. Try it again, or try a different SD card.
Drag the firmware update file (*.df2 file) onto the AirStash, making sure to put it in the root or main directory and not in a subfolder
Tip: Make sure the file is approximately 1.2MB in size. (Different browsers can cause the file to be downloaded incorrectly.) If that happens, be sure to right-click and have your browser actually download the file and not just a link or shortcut to it.
Tip: Make sure the filename is exactly as shown on the download page (linked above), namely "air1105.df2"
Tell your computer to eject the AirStash (on a Windows computer, go to My Computer, right click on the AirStash drive, choose Eject. On a Mac, find the AirStash drive on your desktop and right click on it, then choose eject). Do not physically remove your AirStash from your computer.
The update should begin automatically. This will be indicated by the Status Indicator rapidly flashing yellow and green. Please wait; this process may take 1-2 minutes. If the update process does not begin automatically within 15-20 seconds after you have ejected (step 4), be sure you have ejected the AirStash or done a "safely remove" operation, then disconnect the AirStash from the USB port and plug it in again.
Wait until your AirStash appears as a drive on your computer which signals the update is complete.
Tip: If the AirStash does not reappear mounted on your computer, unplug it and plug it back in and allow for any remaining rapidly flashing yellow/green lights to stop, and the AirStash to reappear on your computer.
If the update completed successfully, the AirStash should remount onto your computer and the update (*.df2) file will no longer be on the AirStash (it gets automatically deleted after a successful upgrade).
Strongly Recommended: After the upgrade, eject your AirStash properly and perform a factory reset procedure. This is typically required when updating a MAXELL branded AirStash up to 3.x+ firmware. The reset procedure can be found here: http://support.airstash.com/entries/20718848 (basically, hold the power button down for 20 seconds until the green & yellow lights blink and it turns on).
As a final double-check, you can verify the firmware upgrade was successful by going to your Settings (the gear icon) > About, and checking what it says for "Firmware Version". This should match the version number of the upgrade file you used for the upgrade.

Just purchased this 256gb Sdxc card from mymemory and it was already formatted to exfat and worked out of the box with the new firmware.
