The three for two on the 50 packs is better value - work out at £5.99 per pack
#2
Why reduce the DVD-R but not the DVD+r?

Very annoying

But good deal if they are OK for you

DVD+ only better at +RW (re-writable) because they format faster, or if you have an old writer/player which uses + and can't play - .

I've seen a few models lately that still don't work properly with -R.

Why? Are they a top company?

100 of these for £11.99 is good - for most people shelling out an extra £6 isn't worth it IMO

The deal is talking about £3.99 for 25 - my maths makes that £15.96 for 100 - so £2.04 extra for top quality media is well worth it.

Please post a link to the £11.99 deal as the cheapest Play have 100 is £12.99

This deal is useless if you want discs in quantity - however for anyone wanting to test out the media in a small quantity it's OK - Personally I've had very mixed results with these Maxell from Play and don't use them for data or backup - but would still buy them for recording movies.

Was that 10 packs of 25? You could have saved £6.50 on the 100s from Play!

even ones that can't be flashed? I thought the days of incompatible media were long gone

yep annoyed as well, the Maxell 100 pack +R is £14.99, whereas the -R is still on sale for £12.99.

I find DVD+Rs to be better for (especially Nero) Multi-Session burning, using the PC, on 2 different DVD writers on 2 PCs & also on a laptop, I've had -Rs not recognised after burning the 1st session (not finalising), happened to +Rs as well but much much more rarely, like less than 1 in 10 for +R not recognised by the drives, compared to about 6 in 10 not recognise -R.

May be because +R is the "renegade" standard they made small improvements to it to attract more people using it.

EDIT: googled a bit & found this on Wiki to support my theory:

In 2002 a new format was developed called DVD+R (or "plus" R). Created by a coalition called the DVD+RW Alliance, this format uses a number of improved technologies that, while generally unnoticeable to the end user, make a more reliable technology. One example is the ADIP (ADdress In Pregroove) system of tracking and speed control used by DVD+R being less susceptible to interference and error than the LPP (Land Pre Pit) system used by DVD-R, which makes the ADIP system more accurate at higher speeds. In addition, DVD+R(W) has a more robust error management system than DVD-R(W), allowing for more accurate burning to media independent of the quality of the media. Additional session linking methods are more accurate with DVD+R(W) versus DVD-R(W), resulting in fewer damaged or unusable discs due to buffer under-run and multi-session disks with fewer PI/PO errors.

agreed

steer clear of maxell disks. bought 100 and used them all with a failure rate of about 30%!

Normal failure rate using other brans is less than 1%!
