emasu : - You posted when it was £7.99 in MARCH 2007 & now this is significantly price reduced :)

BTW, This post appeared even before your post ;-)

it does seem the drive is a bit 'fiddly'/annoying to use but potentially this could be remedied by removing any auto-run stuff off the drive...

and again, w/out sounding like a scratched record @ this price... ;-)
#6
Yeah, you could just format it. (What I usually do when anything comes on one; it's usually a load of rubbish)

Great deal anyway, ordered mine!

just ordered mine. good deal

Very good deal, surely it's seen it's last price drop now, was £7.99 a few weeks ago, then £6.99 last week.
#13
Deal good, but reviews about the product is not great as per reviews.. But dealwise its cheaper.. i would rather go with kingston or sandisk.
#14
I think the reviews are only poor due to people not understanding that they can easily format the drives so don't take much notice of the reviews in this case.

Don't get these they are utter rubbish. I got the same 1GB/64MB deal from play.com about six months ago for a tenner. The drives are hard-wired with some kind of security software and you can't disable it. When you plug one into your computer it creates TWO drive letters for example E: and F: and you have to run a program off E: before you can access F:

I suppose it forces you to observe good security but lots of things don't like the twin drives - gave one to my kids and they can copy their homework on OK but school computers apparently can't read it back again. Same if I plug into DVD player it won't let me watch films off it.

Complained to Maxell and got following:

Unfortunately you are unable to delete this Utility
drive at all, Once you have formatted the drive this will delete all
applications, however the two drives will always appear, you are unable to
delete this partition.

This USB Drive was designed in this way so that the customer could not
accidentally delete the Format Tool & User Guide, if you would like to
return the drives to us we shall investigate and try and find a solution to
this problem, the return address is:-

I bought these last week at £6.99 (shame its not Amazon else i'd ask for a price difference refund :-( ). Impressions. Solidly built and look nice. VERY slow write speed and not that much faster at reading either. Only really of any use for a long term storage solution ie, as a password safe etc. At the moment i've got Firefox portable on one of the drives. It does work but is a lot slower to start than from the Integral drive mentioned above. As for the utility drive, it's easy to disable by going to computer management and removing the drive letter assigned to that part of the drive. Only problem is it needs to be done on a machine by machine basis.

Sounds to me like a u3 wannabe?

Play.com wouldnt p**s on them if they were on fire. Two faced b******s cancel orders without even sending you an email to say reason why. T*****s!
If anybody can find a link on their site to a "contact us" link let me know as I'm damned if I can find it. Maybe they don't want people contacting them, or am I just being cynical? surely not.

bogart, have they cancelled the order? I haven't ordered, but my folks have...

Theres is actually a phone number on the bottom of every page : 0845 800 1020 and if you hover your mouse over it the alt text reads customer services....

It's like play.com have become a completely different company in 2007, have been using them for about 7 years and never had one problem with any order but this year they have been woeful, problem after problem.
