What I am not sure about is whether Maxtor are still having problems with reliability of their drives? It's normally worth spending a bit more for reliability. Just as an example, I've had 3 Samsungs that have died, and even though I use RAID 1 so don't lose any data, it's still a pain to RMA them.
like you say RMAing is a pain so why take more of a risk by buying a maxtor.
