Mine does.... It doesn't power up until the usb is plugged it, if the usb is unplugged it powers down. Also powers down after about 15mins of inactivity.
Same as the one on sale here 500gb maxtor basics.

You pay for the enclosure thats why...
£25 for the drive and £10 for the enclosure = £35
£50 for a 1tb drive and £10 for the enclosure = £60
It also for what people need, I could buy twice as good graphics card for £200 or just get one for £100
If I only need an extra 500gb I only buy an extra 500gb, not 1tb cos I get more GB for my £
