Not long back from Tesco in Wishaw, Scotland and they had these today at £59.99 instore, pretty sure it is the same as the one on the website for £84.95.

Might be just a local deal but def worth a look in your local store if you are looking for one of these.

£59.99 is the standard in-store price at Tesco, not sure why its currently more online.

Ive got 2 maxtor externals... one has lasted for years, and the other died after about 2 months... so I took it out of its case, and stuck it in an IcyBox, and it works fine.

Moral of this story: May as well buy your own external case and drive! (and when you need to upgrade, just swap them over)

5yr warranty but mine lasted 6mth, a lot cheaper than I paid but I won't be buying another.

Good to see its not just a local deal.

if it's anything like the other one touch's then it has a terrible connection requirement - needs two USB sockets (one for power, one for power+data) which may not even be available on older systems, is rarely available on network hardware (killed my chances of a cheap nas trying to connect it to a Homehub), and on half of my pc's it still didn't want to know even when it did get enough power.

This is a 3.5" disk, so requires an external power adaptor to get the disk spinning. The 5V at 500mA from a USB socket will not nearly be enough.

Had a Maxtor OneTouch drive for a couple of years now, hasn't died on me. Has lost my data a few times though and I've required a format to get it up and running again but then again this drive shouldn't be used as a permanent backup solution. All in all a good drive.

74.99 at the new tesco hermiston gate(edinburgh)
showing £10 off on the shelf from £85.99

Called Wishaw and Coatbridge and the shelf price is definitely £74.97. The 500gb seems to be either £59.99 or £54.97.
