That's quite an ugly looking hard drive imo

Cheap, but ugly. Heard Maxtor is reliable too.

Cheap and ugly but reliable?

Sounds like someone I used to know...

Worth checking the dire reviews on Amazon, one complaining consumer coudn't even turn it on, even after 3 months!!!!!

My advice is just to go with the Western Digitals for £59.99, got four of them.

Seagates and Maxtors had problems with both.

Hot, great price, but after looking at Amazons reviews, (written by Maxtors competitors?!?), i will try to stop my fingers from talking!!!

There was a thread for it but it must of been removed because it was a duplicate. The original doesn't appear in the search results so here is a direct link.

I never go any bigger than 250gb as a hard drive will pack up one day and when it does you will all the data.

I've used and abused my Maxtor drive for over a year now without any problems.
I'd rather go with them than WD any day.

I think everyone's had a bad experience with one or more of the hdd manufacturers. Coming from a IT Infrastructure background, I found Maxtor, Hitachi and Toshiba drives (all models - scsi, eide, sata etc) to have high returns unlike your Samsungs, Seagates and WD.

I would also take into account warranty and whether exchanged product is reconditioned or not.

Totally agree with the above, even to the point of my backgroud! :w00t:

If you want one to last go for this - http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1448567069.1203900634@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccceadedglffdelcflgceggdhhmdgmk.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=970233&category_oid=-32889

Seagate Freeagent 500GB for £69.99 and it comes with a 5 year warranty. Out of stock for delivery though, you'd have to use the [email protected] option.

Thanks Sparc, just what i was looking for .:)

I picked up 2 yesterday from PC world, and they knocked them down to £64.99 each for me :-D

I bought mine 6 months ago and ihave used it contineously for more than 12hrs per day. So far no problems with this near-silent drive. Have I been lucky?

Maxtor is ****. They don't care. Their devices are utterly unreliable. Save your money, buy WD or Seagate.

I own the Onetouch I & II - the Maxtor drive packed up in one of them a week after the standard 12-month warranty ran out. On the plus side - the external case is quite nicely built, so I have replaced a Seagate with 5yr warranty in this case. I am also looking to replace the Maxtor inside the other Onetouch as soon as I spot another good deal on a Seagate 500GB EIDE/PATA drive.

As everybody has already said - Maxtor drives are rubbish!
