Thats a great deal :)

Personally, I've always used Norton until just recently. Both McAfee and Norton are resource hogs and bloatwear...

Kaspersky and AVG have come out top on recent tests/polls, so why not try one of those, I do believe they are free/have free trials too.
#3
I prefer McAfee to Norton.

Good spot edi

You can get McAfee Internet Security 2006 which includes Antivirus on Ebay for £6.50 delivered.

Having read PCPRO recently they have quite a large article etc on how you shouldn't be paying for anti-virus stuff anymore as all the free ones you can get do just as good a job than some if not better....

This is probably the best one and gets their vote....

Thanks for the post clarence. I agree with PCPro on this front. I'm using Zone alarm, but AVG is supposed to be excellent.

Thanks everyone for the comments :)

Choice is down to individual preference & if you need to buy, this is a GOOD price

I bought Nero 7 on 7dayshop megadeal, and it stopped working. I contacted nero and they advised me I have an illegal version!
#9
mjt01 :- If Nero can provide you with a written confirmation against the product serial number, you can win a compensation jackpot (possibly). Contact CAB or Trading Standards :)
#10
McAfee, Norton, etc absolute BLOATWARE!!! :x Wouldnt touch it with a bargepole.

AVGfree for your antivirus and sygate personal firewall [free]. Cant ask for more!

This is cheap because AntiVirus 2007 has just been released, by the way... ;) So it's technically "the old version" now. :D
#12
If you simply want the best AV protection, NOD32 is the way to go everytime without exception.
#13
Very good price if you prefer McAfee :)
#14
Yeah it is a very good price Edi, Good Find. But as you can see, threads about a product like this always start some discussion... people always have other preferences :D
#15
great spot edi cheers

"Please note: This sensational price is for the software supplied on a CD ROM, which is the full retail product. There is no need for a CD-Key as the software includes the licence from the day of activation. The image shown is for descriptive purposes as supplied by McAfee.

Note: Some users have reported a problem where their anti virus will not enable."

If you were a computer beginner, then this is a superb price and a great find...
However, they hog memory and there are, IMHO, better and of course free programs that are available.
I use AVG for the anti-virus, a superb, free and easy to use program and I use Zone alarm for the firewall. Again a great free program, though no good if you use AOHell! (Glad I got away from them, but that's another story!)

I tried installing AVG when Zone Alarm was already installed and it came up stating Zone Alarm must be uninstalled to continue installing this product.

Then I upgraded to Win x64 and Zone Alarm doesn't work on x64, so have plonked on AVG Plus Firewall edition - seems good so far...

I read a PC maagazine review which suggested Kaspersky was 4 out of 5, AVG was 5 out of 5 (as it detected more) and Avast was 2 out of 5 (missed most viruses) so draw your own conclusions!

I've tried most of anti-virus software and have to say I've been most impressed with Panda Internet Security. (no jokes please) :-D

Nice find edi, although some might prefer the total McAfee suite for just £12.44 (£8.49 + £3.95 p+p)

It includes the Anti-virus detailed above and also a Firewall, Spamkiller and Privacy Service.

# Prevents viruses from infecting your PC
# Prevents hackers from invading your PC
# Stops unwanted, inappropriate and malicious email
# Protects against spying and pop-up ad programs
# Helps stop identity theft

Thanks everyone :)

Price now dropped to £7.94 delivered !!!!

Panda AV used to be brilliant, fast scans and low sys usuage, until there 2005 version broke wifi that is, had to stay on 2004 with just the update sub. Spent ages trying to resolve the issue and there support was hopeless. I got a response from them 3 months after my initial inquiry!

Couldnt wait to uninstall panda and thats another saga in itself (note: find the forumsand follow the guides to clean it out properly). Now using zonealarm suite and its very good though can take some intial configuring to get it just right.

Have been using avast on a less critical secondary system but seeing the comment above I'll now check out AVG instead.

Probably clearing the shelves to make room for McAfee VirusScan 11 (2007) when it makes it's way over from the States anytime soon. ;-)

Thanks alien7 for the reminder

Just bumping this thread up as there was a duplicate post recently, and just to let peeps know why their comments may have disappeared :)

I wondered what happened there :-D

A question was asked if this was the same as the new version. Well not quite.

Whilst the 2006 version (version 10.0) will still be supported by McAfee and so you will still receive the virus definition update files, the basic software is now 12 months old.

As more viruses and other malicious software is constantly being invented, then McAfee introduce new antivirus software to compensate this.

This is what McAfee say is new in their anti-virus software for 2007 (version 11.0)

Anti-Virus

On-access scanning automatically guards your PC, email, IM, downloads, photos, music files, videos, financial records, Web banking and shopping, and privacy from new viruses, mass-mailing worms and backdoor Trojans. Automatically cleans or quarantines infections with minimal interruption to your computing. World renowned Avert Labs researchers and daily updates deliver fast, zero-day protection from the latest threats.

New! McAfee SystemGuards watch your computer for activity that may signal active virus, spyware or hacker presence.

New! Always-on detection watches key system, Windows, host file and browser settings for malicious changes such as DNS poisoning-Pharming (which can redirect surfing to fraudulent websites) or activity that can compromise anti-virus security (e.g., buffer overflow attacks).

New! McAfee X-Ray for Windows removes dangerous root-kits and other malware that hide deep in your operating system.

New! Up to 40% faster virus scanning.

New! Smaller DATs update your anti-virus defense faster.
Does this mean that it's a one off payment for unlimited updates for life?
Usually a serial number is required for them to check when your subscription ends and allows them to bug you about renewal. Since this one has no serial number, it doesn't prevent you from reinstalling the software and enjoy the updates if it ever expires.

No serial numbers with retail products, but you only get 12 months of updates.

Yes you can uninstall and reinstall after 12 months to get a further 12 months DAT updates. Uninstalling is a bit of a b*****d but it can be done (requires manual registry cleaning or use of the removal tool that McAfee will supply you with if you ask them)

Edit: oh, btw you are also allowed to install the same software on a laptop as well as a desktop providing you agree not to use them both at the same time as there is no restriction.

I'll say no more...:pirate:
