Mcafee have increased their Quidco cashback to 35% in addition to the 50% off RRP when you buy through the Quidco link.

If you use the Quidco link to McAfee the price comes down to £24.99.

If you then use the following code (courtesy of RJ007): -
MC08192904pC518923290

The price drops to £9.99.

With 35% Quidco cashback (£3.49) the price comes to £6.50.
(This does of course assume that it tracks and is paid but mine tracked ok.)

Detailed evidence would be appreciated to make such a sweeping statement:thumbsup:

For example results from extensive lab tests showing detection rates.:)

Why use this site then:p

The free version of AVG will soon stop being updated The new Version 8 is a trial version and only works for 30 days.
I have just got Kaspersky free via Barclays online Banking.

I personally voted cold because i used to use this McAfee until recently when it failed to pick up a virus that a ruined my system, I then used a Kaspersky to remove the virus and restore my system as well as remove several other viruses McAfee failed to detect at all.

GOOD PRICE for a bad bit of software.

McAfee is resource hungry - be aware before parting with your cash....

Barclays/Kaspersky offer is limited to one year free if you are banking with Barclays, but the consensus is that it is the best antivirus program available today.. I use Avast antivirus free which is not only very good at detecting viruses but also detects malware and trojans. Updates are daily. McAfee and Norton are memory hogs and will slow down your system.

not completely accurate - AVG is offered as a 30 day trial, however there is still a completely free version (for home use only) - it's just well hidden on the website (see: http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download?prd=afe) - it's a pretty basic version (antivirus and spyware only), but better than nothing (and works with Vista)

oh no, the AVG debate again - simple get AVG or PAY for another - we all want something for nothing hence this site.... i feel a long long (apple iphone) style debate now...

Well it has got very cold in here! I can't believe that so many people hate McAfee so much that they vote it cold even at this price.

I can understand why people only post once and then don't bother again. I will try to find a more worthy bargain next time.

Hot for me so... I clicked the Hot Arrow (Red One) and the Temp went from -44 Degrees to -35 Degrees then straight back to -44 Degrees. This has happened to me on a few occasions both ways i.e. voted Hot and it goes straight back to the original Temp and/or voted Cold and the same thing happens again. Any clues as to why that happens?

As for Anti virus Protection, it seems like we all have our preferred choice. Its like Banking. I have been with the same bank since I was a kid. There are probably better offers, better rates, etc etc but I stick with what I know. Its a very Human trait to stick with the familiar as we tend not to like change or unfamiliarity.

Yeah well it is simple to kill the silly debate - Wheres the firewall?

AVG Free is **** compared to any Internet Security Suite (including AVG paid) which has a firewall

Yes a lot of home users are behind a NAT but a firewall is needed on any direct connection to the net (Dialup, DMZ set on a NAT router, Leased Lines etc)

The free version of Zonealarm does not contain an antivirus.

Now you are having to install multiple programs to do the job that one should.

Yer you’re right it’s really complicated:whistling: read the computer press trusting all your PCs security to 1 suite of programs is not a good idea they do something’s well and something’s not so well;-) I prefer to take what I think are the best parts from several different sources

But hey you’re better off with this than nothing at all:thumbsup:

BACK UP, BACK UP & BACK UP Whether you pay for or install free anti-virus software you should always back up your files in as many different ways as possible.
The Anti-virus software you do install is only as good as the last virus definitions update. Don’t forget paid for or free Anti-virus software will at some stage miss a virus:thumbsup:

I had a 3 licence Kaspersky I installed it on 1 PC and I just didn’t like it so I uninstalled it, there are lots of people who swear by Kaspersky. You install whatever you’re happy with:thumbsup:
But don't forget to BACK UP:thumbsup:
