This has been my cheese of choice since the Rawtenstall asda stopped stocking Colliers Welsh Cheddar, and up till now has been excellent. I noticed the offer last week and bought four blocks, but having eaten our way through one and a half of them, yesterday we took the remaining two back for a refund. These packs marked Special Purchase are not the same cheese as usual. The colour is more yellow and the cheese is a lot smoother in taste and consistency; mature cheeses tend to break along fissures when cut and this cheese now doesn't. The biggest difference comes when cooked and now this cheese turns into a nasty waxy like mess.

Apologies for going on a bit however I like my cheeses...

Bottom line, still a bargain but I won't be buying any more of this until the offer stocks have run out and I can take a chance on the cheese returning to normal.

Does not have the the same 'gritty' taste that it used to have, very dissapointed with the last lot we had, seems to have gone all soft and PC methinks.

Costcutter currently have the 200g blocks of this cheese for £1.04.

Obviously this works out a bit dearer per kilo, but not by much.

I had the same quality problems as some of the other posters and complained to the manufacturer. Whilst not admitting that this was 'different' cheese from normal they did give me a £5.00 voucher. I've 3 packs of the £2.00 cheese sitting in my fridge and if this turns out to be the horrible stuff it will be going back!

yep it is the horrible stuff - taking it back today. Emailed McLelland about it - no reply this time!
