coffee is free anyway in waitrose only have to make a purchase if you are having coffee in their cafes

That's good. I thought you had to spend £10 to get a free paper. Will have to take up. Bit confused with 2x£1.60 not over £5 but can buy other things I guess.

Sorry, probably badly explained!!

Before any discounts purchase was

2 x Snack bars at £1.60 each = £3.20
Coffee was £1.85
Newspaper £0.65 (I think)

So total shop was £5.70 before any discounts.

Then

£1.20 taken off bill for McVities
£1.85 taken off for free coffee
£0.65 taken off because I spent over £5

So total bill was £2 :D

Thought you had to buy something in-store? In mine the cups are behind tills / customer service - are you luckier in yours?

Their website states:

Free tea and coffee etiquette

Become a myWaitrose member and shop with us a little (or a lot)
Enjoy a free tea or coffee when you pop in for your groceries
Swipe your myWaitrose card at the till
