Would this work with any usb tv decoder, say the one i bought from aldi a few weeks ago..Works a treat with media centre on my vista pc, but included remote is terrible.

I see that from the pic it has another box which i assume is the IR reciever. So i think it would work ok..
Anyone ?

It may work with another receiver but then again may not, its best to just plug in the new receiver (the box!) that comes with this remote and use these together.

I've had one of these official remotes for ages and works a treat, also got a 2nd remote made for a HP box (off of ebay for £1.99) and this works with the official MS receiver, so your current Aldi remote may then work with this receiver too?!?

Av taken the plunge and gone for it anyway. The aldi remote is a limited function thin credit card type one and it blows!
Will just use the new stuff...
Cheers to OP.

this is a good price, the next cheapest i could find is about £20 - I bought one a week ago, although i did haggle the price down from £20 to £14. Good spot alien 7 - voted hot

If you’re using XP I can recommend the ATI Remote Wonder series as they use Radio Frequency (RF) rather than IR. No more having to point and you can change tracks etc from another room. Great if you have a PC linked to your HiFi in the lounge and want to control it from another room or the garden. No Vista drivers though if you want to risk that O/S.
That’s it for me with ATI; I have had more problems with their products than with all other manufacturers combined. Rant over. :x

The subject has been touched on but can someone confirm if this will be OK with my Vista laptop?

Great find regardless, Cheers!

Although this is a tempting price, the microsoft remote works VERY well with media centre in my experience, is backlit, and feels very solid, with a good range for infrared, I would spend the extra £6/7 and go for that.

I would agree, if you can get the MS one for only a little more than this one I would go for that. As stated above it works very well with media centre (as it should!) and feels very good.

But, if anyone has tried this remote and also thinks it's very good then fine, but without knowing I would go for the MS one.

its showing as out of stock???

These work fine in Vista, although it does depends on software support too Powerdvd, WMP, mediaportal, dvbviewer are all fine for example.

What about MEdia Centre?

This does work with media centre on vista. it also works on media player.

BTW. If you are looking at using a universal remote for the ir receiver, forget it!
This remote is designed to emit two different ir codes on one button press. this is not a function of any other remote and can't be emulated.

Thanks for that info Brian - that's exactly what I bought it for. Order cancelled!

I'll have to go back to looking for a cheap alternative. I only actually need the IR receiver if Harmony already have the codes, but I can't find anywhere that sells the receiver by itself.

OK, for everyone who doesn't have Windows XP MCE:

If you have one of the following
Windows XP Home Edition
Windows XP Professional
you need to download and install MediaPortal
http://www.team-mediaportal.com/

You can use this remote with this software to play all your media on your PC. Hope this helps!

Good find. Just bought one for my Vista PC

Does this remote use the same drivers as the microsoft mce remote or does it use its own.

Does anyone know if this could be used on a wireless AV sender connected to an MCE PC? If not then is there anything else that could bounce back the IR codes to the PC/dongle for this remote (in nearby room) ? ;-)
cheers:thumbsup:
