the old version gave a friend electric shocks via headphones according to him :)

I bought a 2gb version of this from Deal Extreme: www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.17286 (my review is third one down).

I know they aren't identical (the casing on the front is slightly difference) but the Aldi one has the same menus etc as the Deal Extreme one.

i like, hot!

What is the battery life like on those? Bought a cheap MP3 player a while ago, and it's 5-6 hours, my friend's Sony does over 20 hours

Bought 3x 2Gb ones like this from Aldi just over a year ago , took them all back in the end as all had problems with the buttons on them, so I would not bother myself..

I would advise paying a bit (lot) more and getting an ipod. Then it will work with itunes, which is an excellent way to organize music, audiobooks, podcasts, movies.

I have never had a built in FM tuner good enough for day to day use, while the microphone facility is something that rarely gets actual use.

With a device like this, it will likely most likely end up gathering dust in a drawer, which doesn't equal value for money at the end of the day.

most things that copy something else is usually a bad thing, specially when it's made in China....

Won't vote cold, but in my opinion you would be better off spending more and getting the real thing - same old story - "you get what you pay for!!"

The radio is very poor, when you tune it to any station the static noise is that bad you can't hear the actually station playing.

I have a 2nd gen 40gb ipod which is quite big (compared to the newer ipods) so bought one of these to use at the gym.

What a piece of junk. Any device that attempts to copy another should be kept clear of, imho. Still, not a bad price, which is ultimately what this site is about.

Not bad for the money. Got a similar one for the Father-in-law when he was in hospital. He didnt want to risk having an expensive i-pod knicked and having a radio built in was a bonus.

There are a lot worse mp3/ipod clones out there that cost more, dont have as many features and dont carry a 3 year warranty. Just check out the Argos catelogue!

Bought hubby the 2gig for christmas and he uses it to n from work everyday which takes about 2 hours and usually it lasts a week or so before it needs charging. think the 3 year warranty makes it worth the money and Aldi will exchange with no arguments on their faulty products.

Not necessarily an ipod, any decent branded player would be great.

Maybe we are just lucky I bought a car starter pack and it went wrong just over 2 years later and took it back to my local store, they changed it straight over even without the reciept. Not ever had problems with other stuff but know my friends base unit went wrong just before the end of the warranty and they refunded them as they had a reciept. I will ask next time I go in there and check
