Another cracking deal from ALDI.
Three years warranty too.
Heat added

Nice! Prefer lappies to PC's these days but still a good deal...
#4
My last Medion is still going strong after 8 years.
#5
Its going cold, so is there something better out there. if so what cos I'm in a buying desktop mode right now.
#6
this is a good pc with 3 year warranty why is it cold :(

A similar priced Dell Vostro 430 was posted not long ago but with an i7 processor - the medion beats it on gaurantee, HDD, and Graphics.

I'm looking at replacing my last Medion (3 years old to the week) and very much want to keep the drop in eSATA drive which this has so I really wan t to know the how the CPU/GPU's match up to other deals. If I could I'd build one myself but I'm not up to it.
#9
Good specifications and price.

A quick look at CPU/GPU Benchmarks and a look round PCWorld has convinced me to pop down to Aldi next week. Now I need to work out how early is TOO early. I remember the first time I got a PC there 6 years back I arrived at 6:30am! Yes I was first, but only just.

My branch is expecting 6-8 of them.

Personally, I think I'll be going for the Dell, as I'm not as bothered about the graphics as I ain't going to game on it and might use the VT-x technology in the Intel i7 over the AMD.

Doing a spec with the weekend discount on the Vostro 430, brings out a Vostro 430 i7 860, 4gb
(2x2048) 1333MHz DDR3 Single Channel, 500gb SATA, Win 7 at £495 (before Quidco at 8%). Only thing is the warranty, I'm sure the Aldi will be a good machine though, just not for me.

i7 860 5,539
amd Phenom II x4 820 3,525

There doesn`t seem to be much interest in this deal over on the Aldi/Medion forums site.

Anyone know what model the hard-drive is?
Ive searched everywhere, cant find any info.

I really hope its not the WD caviar green model,as with the previous aldi desktop.
The caviar green is only 5400rpm (instead of the usual 7200rpm) and has the horrible inellipark feature.

The speed of the drive isnt a problem for me,but the intellipark certainly is.

This parks the head of the HDD when the drive is idle, again not too much of an issue, but it does this AFTER ONLY 8 SECONDS.....Then the drive has to spin up again and of course, this cause a slight delay.

This causes all manner of problems, such as stuttering video playback, stuttering gameplay in games (this PC has a semi-decent GFX card)....

Why PC manufacturers have decided to use this horrible "greeen drive" is beyond me,especially with its known issues.. (packard bell,HP are just as guilty)

So could someone please clear this up if possible, because i'd love to buy this PC,but i aint going to risk ending up with a duff hard-drive.

However,i fear they are going to use this hard-drive again .......Because they only state its a 1TB drive, without mentioning its speed, which is a bad sign.

How come the Germans get a better deal on this one ?
A better processor and a bigger hard disc.
So much for a Common Market.
#16
I'd happerly pay £50 more for the German system.
#17
This is a great deal... just got one from MESH slightly better spec for £1,200... I know which one I would buy if this was about when I brought it.. HOT

Just called Medion and they do not even have stock of this machine yet or the manuals for this machine so can not advertise anything more than whats on the website, the sales consultant said they can not confirm the ram capacity on this machine until tomorrow ,

he will be calling me back so i will update you when i find out he expects that the board should support between 8-16gb ram only time will tell

hi chaps, im thinking of upgrading my pc to this

my current pc is

2.13 gigahertz Intel Core 2 Duo
8800GTX
4 gig of ram
creative x-fi
vista 32

would the medion be noticeably better than my current pc for gaming? or should i bite the bullet and spend £800 on one from OC or the like?

cheers

The 8800GTX in your current machine is faster than the 5670 in the Medion, so it would be a downgrade in gaming performance in most games.

You just made me realise that mine is 3 years old too...you have the 8822 right?

Lack of any mention of 64bit (German model mentions both) is a shame. Yeah, it'll fly without it but the OEM software will be stuck on 32bit. Hopefully it's just a lazy UK marketing department. Maybe not important for most but I like all the RAM I can get and 4GB ain't good enough for me.

Lovely machine though and excellent warranty. I think the days of people queuing around the block for these are long gone. Competition has caught up with these not too often Aldi deals and people are keeping their base units longer and longer I find.

The German spec is better because we have an artificially low price in the UK.

...people are keeping their base units longer and longer I find.

I'm on my second Medion and but for reading a post on here didn't realise that my current one is 3 years old this week. I have just upgraded to Windows 7 hand have no intentions of replacing it anytime soon. I've had no trouble with either of my Medions. My first the 8080 is 7 years old this September and is still used daily.
#29
this machine comes with both the 32bit installation and a 64bit installation software disc to upgrade the operating system.

My last desktop was a Medion from aldi and very Good it was too i eventually gave it to my sister when her pc went Kaput and i had decided to upgrade but to a laptop.
The lappy was a Toshiba Qosmio G40 and it blew up 16 months after i got it and for a £1800 laptop i was a little Pi**ed off when tosh said they wanted £600 for a new motherboard and then they would check it out to see if that was the only problem with the machine.
i guess i am saying that for £600 the medion i got 7 years ago is still running strong at my sisters and the very expensive tosh i got lasted less than a 3rd of that time.
i am about ready for going back to a desktop and am really thinking about going for this as the aftercare service from medion is brill i had to make 1 phone call for my old tower and they sorted it in less than 2 mins and even phoned me back a day or 2 later to check all was ok.

Just to confirm.

This PC does indeed have the underperforming caviar green hard drive..(5400rpm,instead of the usual 7200rpm).

Plus the dreaded intellipark feature.

This has put me right off to be honest, was going to buy this.

The intellipark feature, not only causes issues in various applications & games,it also causes reliabilty problems, due to the heads loading/unloading all the while.

The last 2 aldi desktops have had these cheap and nasty drives in them,so have Packard Bells,DELL,and HPs.

It looks like its becoming some sort of standard for 1tb or above,in prebuilt pcs.

Be aware that packard bell and dell have been known to state this as a 7200rpm drive, its not.
