Hi Guys,
Saw this advertised in ComputerActive recently due out this coming Sunday.
Seems like a fair deal to me but I await your opinions. Also comes with a windows 7 upgrade voucher but not sure how this works, ie: is it a Vista upgrade or complete installation thus wiping out all your Vista settings?

From computeractive:

Far more interesting is what goes on inside the case: it has an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 processor with 4GB of memory, an Nvidia Geforce GT220 graphics card which has 1GB of its own memory, and a 640GB hard disk. In addition to that storage, there’s a CD/DVD writer that reads and writes all current formats except Blu-ray.

no need to google the go to deal link goes to the computer active page already. I thought it was sold directly from medion until the op added the retailer. still it would be nice if the medion website had a product information page on this desktop.
This acer desktop for £478 is the closest spec pc i can think of http://www.ebuyer.com/product/167443 the only difference is this has 750gb hard drive compared to 640gb on the medion. So maybe those who do not live near aldi could consider purchasing the acer.
or this mesh pc £449.99 http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/442571/mesh-elite-desktop-pc-quad-core-q82/ slightly inferior cpu, 1TB hard drive, and ati 4850. The ATI 4850 should faster than the GT220 if you plan to use it for games. And it seems there is no esata port on the Mesh and Acer.

Thanks for the reply, I dont play games, just a bit of video editing from the camcorder etc. so I'm assuming the Aldi one would be a good deal with the 3 year warranty too.

Wishful thinking, good luck using that warranty!

what problems did you have with medion warranty?

Thanks for the heads up, Even though this deal does'nt start until 27th I went in today (26th) and asked if they had any and the guy brought one out from the office for me and here I am using it now.
#10
ComputerActive gives it the 'Buyit' approval rating...as a subscriber I find their reviews balanced and reliable. Getting a lot for the money..good all rounder. Hot for sure
#11

1000? Is that one too many zeros?

I wouldn't mind one of these myself but not gonna get chance this afternoon, would be buying from the Arndale store, but if they have even 100 I'd imagine they're not gonna sell out today.
#14
1,000 is the exact number on the outer packaging of the box. I would say it's best if you went in the morning to pick it up, better to be happy then sorry.

The graphic card is very good for all pc use i.e surfing, watching video and opening up various application at the same time. But when it comes to game-playing for those enthusiast and high-end games being developed it's not the best, hey ho! but for games we have XBOX 36O & PS3.

Overall for £399 its a fantastic PC with a 3years warranty.

Windows 7 upgrade Information http://www.medion.com/windows7/html/uk.html
#16
Got one too as an early xmas pressie.:gift: :santa:

Now is it to be 32 bit or 64?:oops:
#17
I'm in the same boat as you ^, just opened the box but don't know if the operating system Vista is 32 or 64bit.

Any techie can shed light on this, on the upgrade option to Windows 7 is it better doing 32bit or 64 from Vista?:whistling: Help would be super!:-D
#18
Hi Guys,

HOT deal - luv the quad core for £399! Got first in the queue at my local aldi store.
#19
There were only 9 in my local store (Peterborough) I managed to get one for me and also my sister who was faffing around trying to get a trolley (much to the disgust of the people in the queue behind me) I really wanted one for my son also but I dare not ask for 3 I think I would have been lynched.
#20
Internet Explorer 8 is very slow opening up, so i am not happy about that :x and an ugrade to Windows 7 is around £20, which Medion send to you by post.

Anybody else started their machine, or had a play around with it?

the PC is sold with 32bit vista premium installed, and 64bit vista should be in the box.
#22
So will you get a 32 bit and 64 bit of windows 7?

Shame we have to pay £18 or so for Windows 7 when its out in 3 weeks and Dell are already got theirs on their machines
#23
Anyone know of a way we can download the upgrade to 7?. I mean to charge up 20 Euro's for a cd seems a bit steep when we could burn it ourselves!
#24
i agree with sasman there, does seem a bit wrong to charge when most other companies give this away for free.. (although I probably shouldn't moan... a quad core for £399 ain't too bad!)

P.S For anyone wanting to know how well this plays games... I have installed Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 and this plays at max settings fine (albeit with AA set at 2x rather than 8x which makes the game really crawl!) - so pretty decent for 'mid-range' gaming in my view.
#25
Does anyone know if this card (Nvidia GTS 220) will allow me to use two monitors together?
#26
how noisy is this Aldi/Medion PC as i want to set it up in the lounge ?

Hey jzero - I have been using constantly even playing the odd game of Command & Conquer and can tell you it is surprisingly really quiet - I'd certainly think it would do well as a media box if you don't mind the size.
#28
Anyone got a full spec list for this? As my dad is very interested
#30
Cheers
#31
I agree about the sound. Miles quieter than my last one, and even quieter than my laptop.
#32
I would strongly recommend waiting for an upgrade to windows 7 before downloading or compiling any folders. Win 7 is amazingly faster in start-up, shutdown, opening applications and other stuff, which is very much alike to Mac OS X.....not suprised:roll:microsoft, microsoft...bad boys.:p

Anyway as this machine E7330 does not come with a monitor, I would also recommend this 22" inch baby - http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/9554329/LG-W2261V-22-Widescreen-LCD-Monitor/Product.html#

One thing before i toddle along, my hard drive keeps making a noise, it's like when you open up an app' and it makes that hard drive sound, anybody else noticed it?
#33
thanks for the info ...
just one more thing how many spare sata ports are there on the MB ..
#34
The only thing i was dissapointed with was it does not have a spare caddy for another internal HDD.

It only states it has an Esata port, and i can only see one at the back of the machine, hope that was helpful.

I believe its very vital in this day and age to have an external hard drive, the one that don't use separate power like this one http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/573242 to back-up you important data daily or weekly basis..

By the way my hard drive making that noise, arghhhh!! which really got me worried & confused :? , was the Microsoft updating.:x bloody spysoft...It's sorted :-D

I had a quick look when I got it and it looked like there were no spares. There was 4 in total. One each on the HDD and CD. One went to the front ESATA and the other to the top Medion external HDD thingy. I will be disconnecting the top one in order to free one up,

At a glance I thought I saw a gap above the installed HDD, could one not be put there?
#38
The internal HDD is not a massive issue but would have been nice as i like to keep my music on an internal HDD but seperate to the OS. Yes you can partition the drive but if you want to format the drive you then back to square one.

Also i got the case open and there are really no spare points for any extras to be added on. There is a spare bay for another CD drive/Blu ray player but no extra sata points for them, i seen a sata power lead spare which is very tighly buddled up with the rest. But then took a while to find how to get the case off and then to find the bay has been spot welded. Now if i take this off with it affect the warranty at all?

Ps is the HDMI only for a TV as i do have a HDMI on my monitor aswell
#39
Have people upgraded to 32 bit or 64 bit windows 7
#40
I've upgraded to 32bit Windows 7 because of the compatibility, which most application use and its early days for 64bit.

I'm considering to buy a 22inch monitor that has a glossy screen look, just like the Apple Imac, anybody else purchased a monitor.
