Not as good a deal now the advent can be purchased for £249.99 with bluetooth. :)
#2
seems very good machine, but not too cheap

These are the same as Sainsbury's are selling aren't they? Also, the battery life isn't as impresive as you mention. It's about 1.5 - 2hours. There's a new 6 cell battery available via the medion website for £50, but it's out of stock.

That depends on what you want. The medion doesn't have bluetooth, but does have wireless n-draft and can have mac os installed on it. Take your pick!

so the 36 month manufacturers warranty cost £30 that seems good

I believe that this machine is the same as the Advent (it's just an OEM version). The differences are that it has no bluetooth, only a 0.3MP (instead of 1.3MP on the Advent) camera, and no RAM soldered onto the motherboard. As others have pointed out, it does have wireless 802.11n instead.

Unless you really need the upgrade on the wireless, the Advent seems a much better deal given that they're both essentially MSI Winds.

Medion = BAD Customer Service. Your 36 months warranty is udeless with their non-existent customer service (you basically have a 12 months money back warranty with Aldi nowadays. If it breaks within the first 12 months, get a refund from the shop and don't bother with a service). It took 6 months in total to have my PC fixed with Medion. Aldi used to be cheap and Medion used to be good. Now it's just average price with no service.

If this is almost exactly like the Advent then be aware that on the Advent (presumably the MSI Wind as well) the speakers are apparently next to useless. I was very seriously considering the Advent but if I can't show Yutube videos of horses and diggers etc. to my toddlers with it then it's no deal.

The Dell Inspiron 910 is allegedly out tomorrow or Friday (or August 22nd LOL) and depending on whose rumours you believe it may well wipe the floor with the competition on price or features - I'll believe that when I see it though.

Dr NO
Where? is that offer still on?

Open a business account at pc world, its only £218 for the advent then
#12
Hi,Medion overall have good support(certainly overall at this present time),certainly compared to lots of others.
Sorry you had bad service, but your certainly not the norm.
You are sure to find a bad report for anything, tends to be the norm.Peeps CBA to post good things,so can be rarer.
Aldi's 12months as gone way back, its now 30days,you can guess why.

Not sure if it has occasionally come into stock but I have been checking every now and then. In the end I think I will wait for the 6 cell battery

Well the acer and advent have poor speakers and the eees and the HP have good speakers so it's a 50/50 chance on whether the dell will be any good in that area.

That is not my experience of the customer service, my machine went wrong a couple of weeks ago, I suspected the motherbored had gone as the machine was not posting and i had swap tested the ram and hard drive, i phone up the call centre took about 20 minutes to get through (to an english call centre) after speaking to the intial guy who set up a new account for me. He agree straight away with what i said about the machine. They got a courier out with within 2 days (which is the same as pcw) and he said the machine would be away for upto 10 working days and it was away for about 7 working days and came back with a new motherbored and is now working fine. (Personally I do not see what is wrong with that service)

Personally i would get the medion over the advent purely for the warrenty they offer. PCWorld i imagine will charge a minimum of £7 a month for there cover so that would nearly double the price of the laptop in those 36 months

I have been reading about this carefully, and the pcworld advent is clearly better value for me.
I can upgrade to 2gb for free, as i already have a spare 1gb module from my imac (upgraded to 4gb)
I can set up a triple boot with XP, Ubuntu and Leopard. (Hence need for 2gb RAM)
I can get a WIFI card for £15 that will work in leopard. (from ebay)
I can get a USB dongle from dealextreme for £3 for sound in/out while people are still working on drivers for the inbuilt sound in leopard, or just use my A2DP headphones with the built in bluetooth.
The built in webcam is better in the advent for ichat.
A great apple macbook nano for £300 plus a copy of leopard.

So the medion is more expensive to add ram, a worse webcam and no bluetooth.
The advent has shorter warranty and no wireless N.

after all that, i will do nothing for now: I will get more for less next year!?
#26
Why would you want 3 os'?

Can't one of them do everything you need?
#27
hi got one this morning and its great im well pleased with it but they only had 5 in my local shop and they had all sold in 10 minutes
#28
I bought one of these, but am gutted when I got home. it wont turn on. The light on the adapter comes on, but absolutely no lights or action on the unit itself.

I'm looking for advice on what to do. I can get the money back from Aldi but will I be able to get a similar spec machine somewhere else. i want it for note taking at uni, (I start on Monday) and some internet browsing.

I have spoken to Medion, who can't replace it as they don't have any, they can only repair it. If I can't get a similar spec, should I get them to repair this?
#29
aldi has a 30day no quibble money back thing. Just take it back with the receipt and box, and get your money back, I think the Advent looks just as good (?better) anyway.
#30
Where can I get the advent
#31
loads of places, all dsg group. currys, dixons and pc world
