Medion Akoya Mini E1210 £199.99 at ALDI

Medion Akoya Mini reduced by £80 from £279.99 at ALDI. This is much better than the Sainsbury's deal, as this model has a 3 year warranty, comes with a case, bluetooth & 160gb hard drive. The guy in the store said it was going back up to £279.99 on monday. They had loads in ALDI in Hessle.

They also had them in white :) would look awesome if you were planning to install OSX86

Windows XP
Intel Atom N270 1.6ghz processor
1gb 667mhz DDR2 RAM
160gb hard drive

If this comes with the six cell battery I would consider, well if I hadn't bought the Asus 1000HE recently I would anyway..

Why is this voted cold? The Sainsbury's deal went hot and this is a far better deal IMO.

Nice one  my first deal haha, I thought it was really good! I've been browsing for a while now 'cause my dad wanted one! Put Windows 7 on it and it runs surprisingly well, bearing in mind I've got a quad core running the same operating system I don't think the netbook does badly
#5
Is it Windows or Linux? I suspect it is Windows with the size of the HD.
#6
There's a small branch of Aldi near where I live. I doubt they will carry this but will have a look tomorrow if I pass by

It is similar to the one in my Netbook. It is ok, but don't expect quality. By the way it is 1.3 not .3, the Wikipedia is wrong.

That wiki article mentions it has a 3 cell battery, but some other article ( http://www.atomnetbooks.com/2009/03/03/new-medion-akoya-e1210-aldi-netbook/ ) says they have updated the 1210 with a 6cell battery and a 160gb harddrive. Anyone got any idea which this one is?

E1210, does this mean it comes with a 12 inch screen ?

I really wanted a NC10 but snapped up one of these Medions when they were £180 at Sainsburys - £120 less than the NC10 couldn't be ignored.

I love the Medion but the one downside is the pathetic battery, I'm lucky to get 90 mins out of it. However, this Aldi deal is even better than mine with the case, warranty and bigger HDD so if I was in the market again now I'd still save the £100 and buy this instead of the NC10.
#25
It would prob hakintosh fine seeing as its similar to the other hack netbooks
#26
As a Samsung NC10 user, I have to praise the shockingly good 'NC'...

Bottom line, if you're going to want longer battery life, you're going to spend another £50+ to get a decent battery for an Akoya, which means that you're now £50 closer to a Samsung.

That said, the 3 year warranty is a real deal-sealer, and you're getting an MSI Wind plus a three year warranty for less than RRP...

As others had said, if this had the 6 cell, it would be a no brainer, and equally if it were, say, £169 then it would be a no brainer...

It requires a little bit of thought, but on balance I suspect most people will find this a prim little bargain for their netbook needs, even with the cost of an extra OEM 6cell battery...

Heat applied!

Every day better and better deals come out for Laptops/Netbooks... when is this going to stop ????

Do you recon the atom processor will run Dreamweaver and Visual Studio? (Hoping it does!!!)

Everything, except the webcam, works. If you are stuck with the Bison 0.3 version, that is. Bluetooth comes in the form of an external usb dongle with the Medions as opposed the the inbuilt bluetooth of the Advent/Wind models.

OS X 10.5.7 has added about half an hour extra to the battery life of the 6 cell Winds/Medions, so this should give you about 4.5 hours of average use.

Go for it. I got one about 8 months ago (lower spec, higher price). Nice little machine. Upgraded with Ubuntu Hardy, 2G ram. Check out MSI forums for advice and other mods such as touch screens.

BTW: blazing fast if it has the same draft-n wifi

Anyone yet know what battery configuration this deal comes with?

Definitely better than the Sainsbury's deal (which was by no means bad, believe me) but don't be fooled by the bluetooth! It comes in the form of an ugly dongle, not built-in!

BTW Not sure if people know, but unlike many other MSI Wind clones, these come equipped with a Wireless-N card, so if you pair it up with a Wireless-N router you get generally better speeds (internet-connection permitting) and increased range.

The 3-Cell battery is a bit of a joke though, defo reccommend upgrading it. DealExtreme do a good price on one here:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.24918

The above battery is a 9-cell one, so will stick out of the laptop a fair bit, but comes at an incredible £35

Alternatively, they have a smaller (which i assume is 6-cell) for a comparitively expensive £30:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.18769

Either way however this is a fantastic laptop. With a softcase I bought off deal extreme for about $3, I have been taking this to college everyday bouncing around in my bag and it has widthstood this journey wonderfully, immensely useful for typing up notes, and with Windows 7/OS X dualbooted works like a dream.

mem upgrade will negate the warranty

i bought one of these a few months ago and couldnt be more pleased.
The one I got for £279.99 from Aldi was supplied with a 6 cell battery which on average gives me 4 to 5 hours heavy use. Gotta agree about the bluetooth though I don't often use it as the dongle is pretty ugly.
The memory can be upgraded without voiding warranty as there are no void if broken warranty stickers. I just opened mine, removed the 1 gb stick and put in the 2gb one. If theres ever any problems i'll just put the 1gb one back in and job done.
Good Find OP heat and rep added
