very nice find if you need one and can find one - hot

If this is widely available it is a better deal than the Dell Mini 9. I'll take an 80GB hdd over the slow 8gb Dell SSD any day. Also the 10" screen is a little more convenient for laptop viewing.
#3
Is this a one store only-clearance or possibly nationwide..? Could call to reserve & collect like with Sainsbury's other electrical bargains, excellent price. Great find OP
#4
hi how much do these normally retail at, are they any good may try and get mum one for mothers day
#5
Nice find just searching for one :p hot!!

Are the medion akoyas not basically rebranded MSI Wind U100s ?

Yep, an msi wind.

Staines and walton on thames had them also at the time. I asked the counter chap to check for my brother.

(Oh, that was over an hour ago!)

It looks slightly different to the advent 4211 but only slightly. It good to be back on XP. I didn't get on with Acers Linpus(??).

Dixons sell them refurbished for £199.99 but I've had problems with refurbished stock before. One Asus from dabs still had the previous owners personal details on it.

Review of the Medion here.

I am waiting for someone to tell me if these are good netbooks or a waste of £176

Good find if any are in stock........

theres a few other medion bits and bobs going cheap... a camera and a sat nav.

this is a great deal if nationwide, but I'd still go for the dell. The SSD is not slow, and far faster than a none-ssd drive.

that said - this is exceptional if you need the space.

Very good price for a netbook and you need to use XP - not everyone has a spare copy of XP to install.....this has a bigger hard disk, one of the best netbook keyboards, bigger screen and XP.

I got one of these a few months ago, assuming this is the 3 cell battery? The most I ever got out the battery at full charge was 1hr35mins. Maybe I had a dodgy one - but wasn't risking it and got a refund. Apart from battery life, it was ok.

Not bothered about the bigger screen, nor the bigger hard disk.

However, hadn't realised it had XP on it... frankly its a steal. Will have a look in the local and might buy one to sell on!

Still want the Dell for myself though...

They are very good machines, my opinion the MSI wind is probably only second to nc10. Now this version of the wind is an older one with an 80gb hard drive,no bluetooth and only a 3 cell battery but at this price it is a bargin if you can get hold of one

Now as a comparison look at this (http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/348192/mini-notebook-medion-akoya-e1210-ms) a new spec machine with 6 cell battery, 3 year warranty, 160gb hard drive and a bluetooth dongle costs £279.

it is a bargin to get a new (not refurb) netbook with a 10" screen, a proper sized HDD and xp on it for £176

I know what you mean - my heart wants a HP 2133 but my head says this is better.....the MSI Wind is about £250 (Argos) so this is a good deal (if its available).

I reviewed the HP 2133!

PM me for the link if you wanna read it (I'm not allowed to link to the site on here as it has referal adverts on it!!!

Basically: Its hot! Really nice laptop, looks stupidly expensive, screen is gorgeous, but the CPU lets it down big style.

Dell M9 owner here, however have to say, assuming nationwide availability :whistling: absolute steal

Where can I get the 6-cell battery for this?

And I have to agree, this is one of the better netbooks after the NC10.
I've had the Advent 4211 first, then sold it and purchased the Asus 900. The keys were way too small and the battery drained when the unit was switched off so I sold it and got the 8gb Dell mini 9 for £100.
The mini 9 wasn't bad but needed a bigger HDD and didn't get on with linux so I sold it and got a refurb Advent 4211 again. The keyboard on the MSI wind clones are the best. I then sold it to my brother to get two Acer Aspire One A150-Ab's but both are playing up and the were not "as new" as described.

This is here to stay..... until the next best thing!

I bought one of these for my parents when they were £299. Absolutely brilliant except for the mediocre battery life. If you can live with that then buy!

Oh and you can use it as a hackintosh computer and run mac osx off it too!

i bought a HP 2133 on moday (£199.99 from currys) its a great little netbook. i got the Linux version and put windows XP SP3 on it and it runs great. people keep banging on about the CPU but under windows XP its not too shabby. general use for internet, office apps and emails are all fine with only very little slow down with multiple windows open and with an external DVD rom it plays DVD fine with no lag at all. all reviewers slated the VIA C7 CPU but its fine with XP and linux and the biggest mistake HP made was to try selling it with vista rather than the choice of CPU.

if you cant find the Medion Akoya Mini than the HP is best choice by far especially as under £200 and you get a 120GB HDD and a netbook that runs great. only downside is that it comes with linux but most people than own PC`s have an old copy of XP that they are not using since Vist was released.

fair enough, but just to point out... i dont copy other reviews... i wrote from my own experiences - and it was poor in the apparent CPU department - but the device I reviewed was Linux based. I've heard that it performs better under XP, so that might be why you don't see it as a problem?

However, the Dell has near double the battery life. Of course you can buy a secondary to get equivalent battery life, but that's bigger/heavier as well as the cost (£40ish).

Depends what you want to do with it really. If you just want office apps+internet, 8GB is enough (music/movies can go on a SD card).
[helper]#30
From what I've read I think its generally accepted that the HP2133 is let down by the CPU compared to its competitors the early drivers were poor and later ones have improved the perfomance......
#31
These are good, got one for someone for xmas, very nice screen size for everyday use.
#32
I should also mention that it's worth updating the drivers for it http://www.medion.co.uk/ > service and support > drivers and updates.

They do make it run that bit better and get a bit more battery life out of it.
#33
Wow, this looks a good deal.

I was about ready to shell out for the Sammy NC10, but for this much less - and only to sit on the sofa and browse its got to be the better option.

Will be checking tomorrow if there are any in Sains near me.. Hgte, Ripon etc..

Fingers crossed!!
#34
I've had one of these since they first appeared in the shelves in Sainsburys. I paid close to double this @ £299 so I'm kinda gutted that this is for sale for this price.

However it's a great little machine that's never missed a beat. yes the battery life could be better but I've only once run out when it's been inconvenient. Hardly knew it was in my bag when I was in the states last December. The new version has a larger HDD but 80Gb takes a while to fill, it also has Bluetooth but it cost me little over £40 for a mini external HD and dongle and I'm sorted.

Currently running XP but have run Linux (Ubuntu) tried Windows 7 too.

If you can get your hands on one buy it it's worth every penny. If I didn't have three laptops and a desktop I would get one no question but I really do not need another device.

Happy shopping.

im using one of these right now, i have had pc's & laptops, but i just wanted something i could sit om my lap surf the net & do some things with my digi pics, 3 usb's sd card reader, bought it at christmas from sainsburys at just a tad under £200 with my mates discount & i have to say its a superb little machine

no problems at all with it, comes with 90 day bullguard antivirus, screen size is ideal at 10" battery life about 1 3/4 - 1 1/2 depending an what im doing but to be honest that dosnt bother me as i have it plugged into the mains all the time,

but at the price well recommended & i shall pop out tomorrow to see if my local store has any for my daughters birthday,
#36
What colour case have these got? From your picture it looks light brown or maybe silver, but on the Medion site they look black.

Cheers
#37
they have black lid & bottom & silver key pad area.
#38
Thanks for that. Didn't want to try and find one only to find it's brown!!!
#39
Been looking for one of these for a while with 10" screen and XP and this fits the bill nicely. Dashed off to Basildon branch and they had 1 on the shelf priced at £249.99 on managers special. Did a price check and it came out at £179 minus vat reduction.

Bargain !! Comes with CDs as well (XP, Wordperfect Office x3 and support CD), bought my son a Samsung NC10 and don't think that did. I'll have to get a portable CD/DVD drive now I guess. Probably upgrade battery at some point as well. Well impressed for the money, cheers "Monkey Nuts 2", heat left.
#40
got one from rice lane, walton. great little laptop. forget the nerds, the dell screen iss too small. this is an absolute bargain. theres one left in walton store if ya from lpool. cheers dudes
