17" TFT widescreen (maximum resolution 1440x900 pixels) and powered by an Intel Pentium T3400 dual core processor, it's fast, functional - and finished in a simple black and silver colour scheme. It has a 320GB hard drive Blu-ray slim combo drive, which reads Blu-ray discs and burns DVDs - fast, while gamers will be delighted with the dedicated, nVidia graphics .Searched this laptop seems to have 3 gb mem and nVidia GeForce 9500M GS (VRAM 512MB) graphics not got wndows 7 though. Not fastes cpu but t3400 is quite capable but good graphics for this price
does say 1mb on sainsburys site but 3 mb if you google it would think they have got mixed up with 1mb cpu cache worth checking with them though. But 1mb on laptop this spec would seem bit stupid but you never know? as you have no comeback if it was 1mb .Been looking on medion site should get coupon to upgrade to windows 7 http://www.medion.com/windows7/html/uk.html but will cost 19 euro its on uk medion site also this laptop was released 20/06/09 and not an old 2007 model Update just got pc it does have 3gb installed and medion will do windows 7 upgrade

Old technology maybe 07? Also medion are poor build quality and parts are rare to come by

You will find a dell or lenovo with better spec than this for same price but with their higher build quality.

If you want more bang per £ then the acer range is worth looking at but again your trading in spec for build quality.

Better deal without looking much and still sub £400
http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Lenovo_3000_G550_Laptop_NTDRAUK/version.asp

There is also the inspiron 15 floating about on here as well for 429 however the sound isnt great on that but still a good laptop(has a better graphics chip in and faster processor also comes with win7)

Completely baseless!! If you were going for gaming graphics you wouldnt be buying one of these in the first place!! It will play the latest games although not on full graphics.(again not why someone would be buying one of these). It doesnt have a blueray drive but why would anyone be buying a laptop that does?(serves little purpose)

As for the build quality what a laugh these are some of the toughest laptops on the market read some independent reviews before you spout rubbish

By the way I am also a laptop engineer and was giving my advice based on experience. Medion laptops have a history of being crap or short lived!

To watch their Blu-ray films. :whistling:

If you were going for gaming graphics you wouldnt be buying one of these in the first place!! The G105 does DX12 so a bit of future proof.

Wow, that is future proof as DX11 has only been out for about 3 months.

What would be the point without a 5.1 system? and a non HD screen? :) Unless it had HDMI output but I dont think it has?
DX11 was about much longer than that with the win7 betas etc and business release of win7. However you have got me!! because I meant DX11 and not DX12 doh lol and I was wrong on this point as the 9500m does have DX11 support so im wrong on that point :).

Just not a big fan of this laptop it feels too cobbled together. It's like putting an engine from a Lada Riva into the body of a top notch sports car if you get what I mean? I personally would be more inclined to spend £50 more and get a laptop with a T6600 in and Radeon 4570 or equivelant in. For BluRay in a laptop you really want a laptop with an HD screen or HDMI out otherwise go for a ps3 or standalone player. Cos you really got to wonder what a 1920x1080 res would look like shrunk to 1440x900 and without any of the HD audio

Never short of sarcasm on hotukdeals got to love it:)

DX11 was about Spring 09

DX11 was released with Windows 7 in late October 2009 and also for Vista.

It’s not complicated, people generally buy Blu-ray discs to watch on their big screen TV in the lounge and they may also want to watch them on their laptop hence the usefulness of a BD-ROM drive on a laptop.
You don’t need 5.1 surround sound or a 1080P screen to enjoy watching Blu-ray discs on a laptop.

A laptop is portable so you can watch a Blu-ray disc anywhere which you can’t with a PS3 and TFT TV.

Boasting a 17" TFT widescreen (maximum resolution 1440x900 pixels) and powered by an Intel Pentium T3400 dual core processor, it's fast, functional - and finished in a simple black and silver colour scheme. It has a 320GB hard drive on board, with a 1GB memory and up to 3 hours of battery life in use, rising to 48 hours on standby.

It's sold with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium operating system already loaded, as well as a 60-day trial version of Mircorsoft Office Home and Student 2007 and other great features.

This computer is WiFi compatible, has wireless networking capabilities and an easy-to-follow quick start guide. Additional utilities can be added via the four USB ports. There's an HDMI port for multimedia connection, while the expansion slot features a 4-in-1 multi-card reader that's compatible with SD, Memory Stick, and MMC (Multi Media Card).

Movie fans will love the Blu-ray slim combo drive, which reads Blu-ray discs and burns DVDs - fast, while gamers will be delighted with the dedicated, nVidia graphics - just the job for bringing those superhero epics to life. You can also stay connected via the integrated 1.3megapixel webcam with microphone.

Weighing just 3.5kg, it's the ideal travelling companion, so wherever you are, you can take your work and your play with you.

Comes with a 1 year manufacturer's guarantee.

So is it not 3GB RAM? And it does have HDMI support?

Good spot with the HDMI port didnt read that!! Nothing like a good argument :)

Windows 7 was RTM'ed to business July 2009 :)

But where I'm coming from is what's the point in blu ray on the move? its going to be no better quality than a dvd at that res? Your trading in having a blu ray disc for a lower spec laptop? No matter how much you reply thats never going to make any sense to me!!! :D

Bear in mind there is no supply chain for Medion parts as well so if this goes wrong outside of the warranty period it is likely to be unfixable. Unless of course you drop it at that point and claim on your insurance haha

Still wouldnt buy it though not very good laptop just for bluray go for the dell in the deals page in my opinion!

Go for the dell!!! :)

It went RTM in July but was available on MSDN etc in August.

You’re missing the point; people that buy Blu-ray films aren’t going to also buy a second copy on DVD so they can watch it on their laptop. It’s not only about quality but also about accessibility and compatibility.

does have hdmi out(There's an HDMI port for multimedia connection?,) Radeon 4570 scores about same on 3d mark 06 and frame rate in games as 9500m depending on game .Would think this would be ok for games with details turned down a bit .Faster than the 105m (9300m) though.Where can you get quality laptop bluray t6600 radeon 4570 and 17 in laptop for £449 let me know please

I give up!! Medion's are notoriously crap!!

did search on google allways came back with 3gb did see the ref to 1 gb think this is the cpu cache as the T3400 has 1mb cache. Would seem bit stupid laptop this spec with 1 mb ram but you never know?

Found a better deal posting it now. Graphics slightly lower than this one but overall better ;) imo

HD Ready display and T6400 core 2 duo with win7 upgrade. Also Acer do cheap extended warranties

been looking at at that one but was after 17 in for desktop replacment had look at it in shop it has really good speakers for laptop and acer laptops seem to have improved a lot use to look bit cheap before but this acer looks really nice.I was just looking for something with similar spec to my desktop non of these are really gaming laptops but lot better than Intel GMA 4500 which most cheap laptops have cant see point of fast cpu with Intel GMA 4500
#16
Do you think you would notice the extra inch?

For me it would be all in the processor speed and build at the end of the day its down to the end user.

The medion wins on screen size, price and graphics card only. But saying that with such a slower processor that may reduce the 3d mark considerably.

Tough one :D

i have had a mediom for 7 years now and still going strong

Actually you would be surprised what the GMA4500 can do. It plays battlefield 2 pretty well although saying that the game is pretty old now! Also remember the GL40 chipset is more than likely much faster(non graphics wise) than the chipset in these. I could be proved wrong but I do know the GL40 is a very good chipset to have

Most laptops from back then are still going strong. They were built much more hefty and tough! More like bricks haha :D. The ones around nowadays are flimsy and some even bow if you were to pick them up say by a corner. Hence good to get one out in front of you and handle it. If its got a strong solid base thats a good start. Ive seen cracked boards galore on these new flimsy models about(not singling out any manufacturer)

did notice extra inch 16 still looks lot better than 15.6 .Argos got this one Acer Aspire 6530G Blu-Ray 16in with ati HD3650 which is faster than 4570 but slower AMD cpu for £429 i know Medion are not the best but its best spec for money.Just got refurbished dell 1737 studio it
has T6660 but intel graphics(should have had ati 3650)nice laptop+cpu but crippled with poor graphics its going back ? GPU speed has big hit on gaming would think T3400 cpu well matched to this level of graphics cards may have some noticable hit on high end gaming card better to have faster cpu but cost goes up lot more than gaming perfomance
#21
sterion75
Do you think you would notice the extra inch?

Not really but you might well notice the nearly 25% extra resolution of the Medion; 1440x900 versus 1366x768.

sterion75
But saying that with such a slower processor that may reduce the 3d mark considerably.

The CPU is not much slower.

Stop being cheap asses and buy one with a proper 1080p screen. Buying just for the sake of it "just cos its cheap" normally ends up going south. Spend a bit more money and get a decent laptop with blu ray if thats what your after :)
#23
just got this laptop does have 3 gb memory runs games really well for a laptop quite impressed with it .Lot slimmer than dell studio 1737 i have just sent back big increase on running games as it was seconds for each frame on some games with dell and intel 4500 now all running smooth as long as you dont go for high settings.play back blu ray 100% and seems more sturdy than the dell .Called medion uk for win 7 upgrade (they answered phone straight away medion support may be getting better?)sending me the coupon code for upgrade

it is 3gb not 1gb asstated by sainsburys

@ andy math

How is it now a few days on? How is the trackpad - does it offer multi-touch such as for scrolling, zooming etc?

I jhave only just seen this one at Sainsburys for £399 and have ust bought the Medion Akoya E7212 from Aldi for £499, which is 17" with slightly better processor and RAM, but no Blu-ray. See http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/2827_12760.htm

I am thinking of returning as dislike the trackpad and getting the Sainsburys one.
