Price has dropped to £1297.97 making this a very budget friendly gaming laptop.

Cheapest deal I can find for a laptop with the a 1070 card and Core i7 processor. Reviews are mostly in German so I can't comment on quality but Medion are owned by Lenovo so probably fairly solid build quality but towards the budget friendly end of the spectrum when it comes to components.(There is a 32GB version for £1579.99)

Medion Erazer X7849
Intel Core i7-6700HQ Quad Core Processor
17.3" Full HD Screen
Microsoft Windows 10 Home 64-bit
16GB DDR4 RAM
256GB SSD + 1000GB HDD
Dedicated Geforce GTX 1070 8GB Graphics
3 x USB3 & 2 x 3.1 Type C | HDMI | Bluetooth | 2 x DisplayPort
GSYNC
Multi colour backlit keboard

Update - Here is a new review of the X7849 which gives it 4/5 at the rrp of £1749, so for almost £300 less it is definitely a bargain: https://www.hardwareheaven.com/2017/03/medion-erazer-x7849-review/

Hi, can those voting cold please let us know why? If the laptop is overpriced can you suggest a similarly spec'd alternative for the same price or better? If the brand is unreliable or poor quality can owners please give a little info on what has gone wrong? Thanks.

I would also like to know why this is a cold deal? Specs seems strong for the price. Am I missing something? Is it because it's a Medion?

I think it's because people are morons.

Cold or not, I can't find a better deal so I think I'm going to bite the bullet and get this. If it's poorly put together or the screen bleeds I'll be sending it straight back. I spoke to a sales rep and was told that they haven't had any returns or complaints about them so far.

I'm with you, I will be buying this tonight. I searched for a better deal and couldn't find any, check equivalent in specs and still couldn't find a better deal. So I thank you for finding this deal

didn't vote either way because of personal preference (desktop performance) but understand otehrs require portability.
The price seems good for the spec you get, just worried that medion, being German, means no UK support? Would bear that in mind when buying

I'm really struggling with HUKD at the moment. Searching very thoroughly for a mid range 1080p+SSD laptop (on finance) to use for Illustrator and less hardcore game stuff, but every laptop deal instantly goes to about -100 heat with next to 0 comments.

It's so weird. There are barely any laptop deals in the hot section for the last 2-3 weeks, it's all mobile phones, xbox & ps4 games and PC GFX cards.

I've not been active here in ages. Has this site been overrun by teens using their parents/ their first CC or something?

I'm with you on that. Have been looking for a i7, 16GB RAM, full HD and SSD laptop for a while now and have seen very few hot deals here. I'm looking in the gaming section as prefer the design. Don't require a good graphics card because the actual gaming I'll be doing on it will be minimal and more retro. Feel laptop prices have shot up over the last year.

I had the same problem with laptop deals going always cold about a year ago, think everyone compares to desktop pricing, or generally high spec pc people don't like laptops in general..

Got an extension and built myself a desktop in the end! :D

(PC may or may not have been primary reason for extension)

It was either a laptop or I would have been gaming in the garage. Although the cold and the spiders might improve the overall immersion of Resident Evil, I'm just not willing to accept the lack of comfort.

If the images are correct then that 3rd picture doesn't look like a UK keyboard to me. Can anybody confirm if it is UK or not? Good specs for the money.

I reckon that a lot of people have just stopped posting computer deals. It's not worth the effort posting them these days because the self-proclaimed "experts" make it such an unpleasant experience. It's much easier to get heat with a game or a phone.

Unless PC deals are unbelievably great value, they just get voted down very quickly. There's always somebody who jumps on any desktop deal harping on about how it's cheaper and better to build your own - often before checking the part prices - and if you dare to mention gaming on a laptop then the gaming trolls wade in claiming that you can't play games on laptops!

If a laptop doesn't have full HD and big SSD it's pretty much doomed, no matter how cheap it is. And if a deal is over a grand then it nearly always gets voted down. I'm sure that there's a lot of people who vote cold if it doesn't fit their needs, regardless of whether it's a good deal for somebody else. The sweet spot of best price-performance-specs for laptop deals is so small now that it's usually not worth the bother of posting them.

Cold because there are better deals out there. Cyberpower Systems have the older Fangbooks on sale for example, one with a 6700hq on sale for less than this or with the desktop cpus etc. for around the same.

Finally, a cold voter has spoken! Is this the only better deal out there you can find? Old Fangbooks, the cheaper of which has only 8GB or RAM, one 5400 speed HDD, no SSD and no USB 3.1 type C ports at all? The other, that's within a tenner of the Medion's price, does have a faster CPU but still doesn't have an SSD, has slower RAM, has only 15.6" screen and only one type C port. The stingy company has even pinched the free game you are supposed to get with a new Nvidia card. We aren't comparing desktop systems here, this is a laptop deal. Are there any significantly better deals out there for a brand new laptop that beats the specs of the Erazer?

I think this is probably the best deal on a gaming laptop around at the moment;

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-ROG-GL502VM-DB71-HID6-i7-6700HQ-2-6-3-5GHz/dp/B01KQZUGQ6/ref=s9_simh_gw_g147_i1_r?_encoding=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=&pf_rd_r=R61HGAH04PM0B5EAJRY6&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=16f14aeb-bd11-4e9e-8c26-9ca0139074ee&pf_rd_i=desktop&th=1

It's one of the best gaming laptops you can get, it does have a 1060 as opposed to the 1070, that version is 80-90 more than the medion.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-ROG-GL502VM-DB71-HID6-i7-6700HQ-2-6-3-5GHz/dp/B01KFG3QTK/ref=s9_simh_gw_g147_i1_r?_encoding=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=&pf_rd_r=R61HGAH04PM0B5EAJRY6&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=16f14aeb-bd11-4e9e-8c26-9ca0139074ee&pf_rd_i=desktop&th=1

i have not voted either way, its a good price for the spec in a laptop, hesitant as i don't have any experience with medion where as ASUS have been top notch for me. General feeling i've got from medion owners in the past is the customer service isnt great.

You say 'old fangbooks' as if the Medion is new? It's a custom site, so you have quite a lot of options and you can match the spec of the medion for less with the cheaper one or for a few quid less have a much better desktop processor. Also they were another £70 off last week when I posted the deal then. There is a reason you have so many cold voters.

The Medion I posted wasn't released until September 2016, this only 6 months ago so I think that qualifies are fairly recent. It hasn't been superseded by a newer model, the laptop you suggested has. I have tried to configure a system on Cyberpower and the cheapest I can get it is £100 more. I'm sure anyone with an internet connection can find a desktop with the same or better spec for less than this laptop but that isn't going to be of use to someone who wants a laptop. If Medion's are just inherently bad then can those that have experience please let us know as I don't want to buy something that is going to be nightmare to own.

Asus ROG would have been my first choice as they are great but if I want a Core i7, with a 1070 and a 17" display I will have to fork over significantly more (unfortunately). Even discounted they are still more pricey.

What has the fangbook been superceded by? They don't have a newer model with a 1070, some newer ones with the 1060 and down, that's why the fangbooks are on sale. Not sure how you are configuring it as well but as far as I can see matching the Medion is about £80 less, would have been £120 less last week.

Apologies, I assumed by your use of the word "older" that the laptops are older than something else that Cyberpower supply, if they aren't older than something else then why did you use that term? If the laptops you are comparing with the Medion all have the 1060 then of course you are going to find the overall price is cheaper, that is a cheaper card. The laptop I posted has a 1070, can you let me know where I can get a laptop, with the same or better specs, for less money? Please, I will return the one I've bought and buy it immediately! I've been through every combination of laptop that comes with a 1070 on Cyberbpowers site and I can't get the price below the Medion with the same specs, how are you getting £80 lower? Can you please post a link to a saved configuration? Thanks.

They have lowered the discounts this week, was much better last week, looks like you won't beat the Medion at the moment. The 1070 Fangbook and xtreme one are a little old but haven't been superceded by a new model that's what i meant. The xtreme has even been updated to the kaby lake desktop cpus.

The Medion Erazer laptop arrived (a day earlier than expected) and it is fantastic. Playing Deus Ex Mankind Divided in 4K on my TV and it looks awesome. The thing doesn't even get very hot, fans a pretty quiet and the build quality it superb. I'm impressed that the only thing I can fault it on so far is the 4 cell battery that doesn't last too long and is underneath the underside cover so you can't easily remove it but for the cost I'll put up with it.

That's great. I sat on the fence until now. I eventually got one with similar specs. I got the dell Alienware 15 R3. Some pros and cons (depending on needs).

Differences are
Screen: 15" vs 17" - I preferred the 15 because occasionally I travel abroad and 15" is easier to carry. Otherwise 17" is better.
4K vs FHD - 4K is better for video and pictures but suffers on frame rate with gaming. But you are saying it plays well on 4K, so I'll give it a shot. Plus I plan on using an external monitor/tv to play games.
No G-Sync on the Alienware. So that's a negative for the dell.

Processor: i7-6820HK vs i7-6700HQ - 6820HK has a slight advantage in performance and better power consumption.

Ram: 2667MHz vs 2400MHz (could be less)

But the main reason I decided to go for the dell is the 3 years guarantee. I managed to pick one up for £1580, so for a £100, I fell it better suited for my needs.

Yes, regular UK keyboard which you can change the colour of using the Medion app.

Damn, now I can't make up my mind whether to go for the Medion or this cheaper HP Omen with slower graphics but bigger PCIe M.2 SSD: https://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/17-w110na-HP-OMEN-17-w110na_2025523.html

According to the specs the HP is heavier, something to consider if you are going to be lugging it about. However if you don't mind the less powerful GPU you could flog that Elite controller for a tonne and that would bring the price down to £1249. Personally I'm happy with the Erazer. Crysis 3 on ultra settings today, absolutely stunning graphics.

Hmmm, the weight might be the deciding factor. What I would really like is a similar spec with a 4K screen, but those seem to be insanely expensive!

My last laptop was an HP Probook, I replaced the (1366x768) screen myself with a 1080p one. It was pretty straightforward, just had a tricky job getting the hinge covers back on, although if you do that it may invalidate your warranty. HP tech support may not notice though.

Not really. Like I said, I got a similar spec to this plus 4K screen. Also the processor and ram are slightly faster for £1580 with dell warranty until Jan 2020

Yes the FHD screens have g-sync, not the 4K screens. I got mine from here: http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/361922778076?_mwBanner=1

It seems it was a return. It was sold in Jan 2017.
