Went to Stevenage store today and saw this bad boy at an unbelievable clearance price of £19.99!!
When I asked why, the bloke said that they had loads and they weren't selling anymore because of other price reductions in other sat navs. They had about 8 left in the Stevenage store.

I do have a picture, but can't get it to upload. Reduced price is from £49.99 and he said they will stay at that price till they go.

Why would it not be "true"?. Great find Tony, thanks for posting.

Maybe it's because you said "bad boy".

Verdict: A clunky interface, but the GoPal is still brilliant value and even includes speed-camera locations.
View Spec Table

The GoPal 205 is the most affordable satnav we've seen to date. We weren't expecting much for this money, and in many ways the 205 proves you get what you pay for. But in others, it surprised us by offering features more expensive devices lack.

It's bulky considering it sports only a 2.8in screen, but the main reason for the extra depth is to accommodate four AA batteries. Only alkalines are included in the box, but you still get a cigarette lighter adapter and the GoPal runs for several hours on the alkalines. This is handy when you're navigating on foot or cycling - two modes of transport the GoPal is happy to provide directions for.

There's a headphone socket (although no MP3 player) and an SD card slot you can use for extra maps and photos, as there's a photo viewer. As standard, Navteq maps of the UK and Ireland are preloaded into the 256MB of ROM and copied into RAM when you switch the GoPal on for the first time. A bonus is that safety-camera locations are also preinstalled as part of the third-party POI-Warner software, and you can plan multidestination trips in advance without needing a GPS fix - something the Acer, Navman and Fujitsu Siemens can't do. Another decent feature is automatic switching of day/night colours.

Seven-digit postcodes are supported, although we found some postcodes were missing. There are other limitations, too: you can't edit a route, calculate an alternative route (to avoid a jam or roadblock) and there are only five POI categories. You can't preview a route as a 3D fly-over, but you can view the list of directions and look at the route in 2D. Another annoying trait is that the unit clicks wherever you tap the screen and, because the 205 is fairly sluggish, it's hard to know whether you've actually tapped a button or not. Finally, the glossy coating makes it hard to see the road when it's sunny.

But, once you're used to how the clunky menus work, the GoPal does its job well and offers a lot for your money. Bizarrely, there's even a city guide section, although it only has information on London. If your budget is limited, the Medion is the one to go for.

I have the GoPal 250 and I must say it is amazing. Maps for UK and Ireland - never get lost with this gem

Can you change the software on this? Is it necessary?

I got my sister one with Turbodog (or something like that) and it was trubbish so (easily) changed the software for Garmin stuff.

Will check later as, if avaliable everywhere, that is a bargin!
#11
Just double checking, this is Tescos right?
#12
I have one, used it 3 times and refused to use it since. It gets you VERY lost every single time, the maps are heavily out of date, it sends you up and down the M4 four times before it gets it right, it's not even worth £1 I'm afraid.
#13
could someone pick me one of these up. please

None in Cardiff Western Ave - Just to save someone a trip.
#16
None in Leeds Seacroft either. Never any of these in store deals near me. In fact I hate in store deals as it means I have to go out to a supermarket and come home empty handed every time lol:-D

Good deal if you can get one though. I was gonna get 3, one for me and one for my dad and father in law for pressies. Never mind.

Just got 2 from Tesco's at Cheshunt, the manager said he had a storeroom full of them and knew nothing about the price drop, but they scanned at 19.99.

Thanks OP

Used to have one of these . The free speed camera alert is great but there are a few things i will point out . The battery life is bad..... i mean really bad Always use the 12v car power supply . The strangest thing of all is that it sometimes (well quite a lot actually)it tells you to go left and the screen shows right . I learn't that the screen is always correct !!) . Still hot though at this price and does some things better than my new Garmin.

As most people do the same journies over and over again, i.e. commuting to work, the supermarket or visting Granny, why do people feel like they need Sat Nav?

Waste of money IMO.

It's a tricky one.

I'm going to hazard a guess it's because sometimes, occasionally, they go somewhere and don't know where that somewhere is.

Am I right?

Lol ... 3 kids, 2 cars and married for 18 years ... and drive around 15k a year.

Never have & never will use Sat Nav, I use my eyes, common sense and strange things called "maps" if I'm not sure!

so i am assuming that as you have no intention of ever using a sat nav, the only reason you've taken the time to read and post on this thread is to try and knock those who do? good job

Yea, checked 2 large stores first thing this morning. None in stock and staff at neither branch knew about the deal. :?

Just called the 0800 number above and the woman immediately said it's only available online. Apparently she's had a load of calls about this this morning.

http://direct.tesco.com/q/N.1999602/No.20/Nr.99.aspx?Ns=P_HIDDEN_Stock_Available|1||P_HIDDEN_Stock_Available%7c1%7c%7cP_HIDDEN_Stock_Available%7c1%7c%7cP_SORT_Price

Unfortunately no such product exists online :-(

I bought one of these approx two years ago for £49 from Tesco.
Has niggles but yoou get used to them.
As said before battery life non-exsistent, dont just take the spoken directions check the screen, ie at a round about spoken words "go left" but its straight on, on the screen. (Screen is always right!)

Many thanks Cheltenham boy; looking forward to using mine

There are threads dedicated to installing TomTom on this (if you have a legal version of course!) but it's a bit finnicky.

I've got TomTom v6 on mine (in the sdcard slot) along with the speed camera database, works a treat.

There is a foible - on new power startup (either battery or cable) you have to do a quick registry edit to run TomTom but this stays until the next battery/power removal.

Not perhaps for the faint hearted but TomTom for a few quid is an incentive and more versatile than the loaded software.

Glad to have helped a few people out. Feel free to leave heat and rep

If you play music in your car how do you stop the vinyl record from skipping?

Also how do you stop the car from filling with smoke when you need to contact someone?:p
