Nice amount of accessories included is the only positive I can think for this Sat Nav at this price, as well as including european maps it includes an external antenna which most budget Sat Navs would not include.

However, voting cold as although it comes with a generous 2GB memory, that seems all, no mention of a SD card slot (as a windows CE unit this would be very handy for hacks to release its full potential) and really at this price larger screen units can be had over the 3.5" screens if you shop around.

Reading the Medion website, I'm pretty sure this will have an SD card slot.

No mention at all, would seem strange for a unit to have 2GB of flash memory embedded if it did have an external SD slot for a Windows CE device

http://www.medion.de/ms/aldi/md97190/uk/flash.html That link is for the model up from this one, website doesn't have the E3230 on yet, would be surprised if the E3230 did have a SD slot where this one appears not to.

Poster on this forum says it does have an SD slot.

Even if it does, and besides the generosity of having an external aerial thrown in the pack, it still seems overpriced for a 3.5" display considering the competition in my opinion.

The 3.5" screened Navman S30 3D can be picked up for £79.99 or less and has good reviews, is also a Windows CE based device and can be hacked, however if you don't want that Navman are offering free map upgrades next year too, making it in my opinion a far better option for £40 less than this one.

Add a GPS aerial for a tenner and a 2GB SD card for a fiver, and for £95 all in you have a better device. Or plenty of other options for 4.3" screens that would weigh in at around the same price as this Medion, but having the benefits of a larger screen and/or additional features.

Not always I find Aldi's electrical deals to be on the mark costwise, I feel this deal is one of them.

    Navman looks ok, but

    Not European wide mapping
    No traffic problem indicator
No speed camera indicator as standard (only trial)
    No 3 year warranty included
No messing about buying extra bits and adding them on

But it can be easily unlocked to have a fully functioning Windows CE interface from which Tom Tom can be installed and only "bits" it lacks are an SD card and an aerial which can be picked up so cheapily (Not sure if there are firmware hacks for the Medion unit, googling searches do not find many results, most in german), ...in my opinion anyway the "messing about" is worth the £25 or more saving over this unit from Aldi, but there again it depends on the individual and what they want out of a sat nav I guess, most people that are paying over £100 are most likely looking at Tom Tom units, leaving this budget unit I feel in an awkward pricing bracket.
