this is not such a good deal seems like the tevion/medion/aldi deals have lost their appeal. It used to be that you could guarantee a good deal on the aldi /medion/tevion combos but alas they are getting poorer every time, i waited weeks to see the spec on this and can only say how diapointed i am in it. my advice is to let the octogenarians have it because aldi seems to be swarming with them on offer day...........

Is this a better deal than the dell deals at the mo?

I think the only downside to this laptop is the poor graphics card, won't be able to play any decent games on it.
#4
I'm sure this comes with a 3 year guarantee.
That on it's own is worth a few quid :)

The 3-Year Guarantee is more hassle than its worth to buy a Meion.

The Call staff are regularly rude and unhelpful, and getting them out can be murder, with waits of weeks or months to get it sorted.
Medion are based in Germany, so spares often need sent for, which is a 2 week minimum if it ever breaks.

Have to agree with you.
The 3 year warranty is not as good as it looks. My base unit has not been working for over 2 months. They have come but do not hang around to see what happens when they replace a part and as soon as they go it brakes down again.I have just waited for them all day wednesday and noone turned up,when i rang to find out why i was told that the part did not come(thanks for letting me know:x )The unit has also been returned to their base but only to be sent back to me saying its working fine.So members might want to think abit carefully before buying a Medion as their customer service is c***:x

I wouldnt say so.

Its not a bad deal - but its not great either - the current advertised dell deal is a better laptop/notebook

There are far better deals out there for laptops at present.

Quality comes first with these in my opinion and if you bought this over a similar priced Toshiba, Sony or Acer then I'd say your nuts. Look on Ebuyer, laptopsdirect and even the odd deal at PCworld (YUK).

Priorities with laptops in order of importance:- 1. Processor, 2. Brand, 3. Memory(upgradeable), 4. Graphics (unless your a gamer)

I have spent the last month or 2 researching which would be the best laptop for £500 and my wife is now very happy with her Toshiba A120 pro with Centrino, 512MB RAM, 60GB HD and a replace and refund warranty. It is also fantastically built and a pleasure to use.

BE WARNED

My family against all my recommendations purchased the previous laptop deal back at Christmas. It came with tons of pre installed junk which took hours to remove, cost way over the odds (£500 for a Core SOLO processor!) and a week or two ago totally died :whistling:

The laptop went off for repair and has been that way for nearly 2 weeks now! When it comes back I think I will diagnose another fault with it and get my family to come to their senses, take the thing back to Aldi and get their money back then let me do the PC/laptop buying! :giggle:

I would say at 500 quid the acer 5633 from tesco would take some beating;-)

Along with others I have voted cold I hate being negative and shooting down a post (when someone has gone to the effort of writing it) but I think if people shop around they will see plenty of better deals, or just be patient as super deals do appear (like the gateway I am typing this on).

I've just bought the acer from tesco (which is brilliant by the way) as a replacement for a medion i bought just under two years ago. All medion did was delay doing anything until my 12 month garantee was up and then once it was didn't even respond, (well they do send marketing emails trying to sell me there other rubbis... i mean products)

Be warned stay well away.

Laptop i had was as loud as a jet engine compared to the acer. The battery had to be removed just to stop it overheating.

And the spec isn't that good anyway.

All just my humble opinion.

Am I the only HUKD poster not to have had problems with Medion products or their Warranty service? Surely not.

I have quite a few Medion items bought from ALDI and all are giving me reliable service.

I admit I don't own a Laptop and I choose to keep away from them in general. Most Laptops tend to be more expensive and a lesser spec for your money when compared to PCs. Also, by nature, Laptops are more temperamental and difficult to upgrade, maintain and repair.

Decent gaming Laptops are generally much more expensive due to the graphics. I wouldn't recommend this Laptop if you have any games in mind.

I agree that Laptops are more convenient to use but if it's just for the house, or a permanent desk, I would alway stick to a PC.

Nothing against any company as Medion was great spec for the price i bought for & no problems with the unit for 11/2 years but when the unit went wrong its now been over 2 months & still not solved. They have come out to me about 4 times and each time i had to call them several times and make a fuss before they came out.The unit has also been RTB but still the problem remains.Medion just pass the blame to Repairline (who they use to do their callouts) and Repairline do the same to Medion. And Repairlines Customer care is as rubbish as Medions.

Philby27, If you don't mind me asking, Which Toshiba A120 Pro was it?
