Not that hot a deal for a secondhand laptop, you can get better spec refurb from PCworld for that sort of price

Please send me a link to one as im in the market for one.....

As far as I can ses the netbooks (10in) range start at £180 and the laptops (14in range) start at £279.99 so where is the cheaper eqivalent that your talking about??

AMD processors have, generally, tended to run much hotter than Intel. I wouldn't take a chance on one in such a small enclosure.

You'll soon get the opposite view from the AMD fanboys.:whistling:

I've got a HP lappy with a turion chip in (1.9 ghz) and it runs damn hot. It's normally around 60C whilst doing nothing in particular. It's a coupla years old but I do blast the fluff out of the fans every now & then.

Good find OP, especially with the DVD Writer being included and would be ideal for those working within a restricted budget.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

I'm no friend of Medion but this is a good price for what you get. Curry/PCworld refurbs are worse.

+1 - I know of a few members still using the Medion Akoya E1210 (purchased via the Sainsburys Deal last year) and they are running pretty well still.

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

How are Currys/PCworld ones worst? They are usually end of line and not secondhand ones that have been repaired like these

I had 3 refurb laptops from currys, all faulty at arrival. Still faulty after several repairs.

It was a few years ago now, but I once bought a laptop from the Dell outlet.

After 18 months the motherboard failed, probably the most expensive repair a laptop can require. They told me it was out of warranty and ineligible for repair.

I responded that The Sale of Goods Act states purchases "must be of satisfactory quality, sufficiently durable, free from any defects" and that as the laptop had visibly been well looked after, the laptop clearly had not been of a satisfactory quality, unless they were satisfied for their products to fail after 18 months.

We may have had a few emails back and forth debating, but it was obviously clear I wasn't going to give up (I was a poor student at the time who needed the laptop and couldn't afford any replacement or repair), and eventually they relented and repaired it!

The Sale of Goods Act is on your side in this situation, sadly, I just did a bit of reading and it seems the sale of good acts applies to the retailer, not the manufacturer, but it may still be worth a go! Good luck!

had this myself, bought a compaq from dixons refurbs for 220 pounds and it arrived with a faulty keyboard(so much for thoroughly checking it:whistling:)
to be fair it was fixed and returned in 3 days and has been great now for nearly 2 years so would probably buy one from them again as it saved me 120 pounds on the new price.

I have a very similar Medion Akoya. Its was £220 on ebay with a 15.4inch display. Very similar in other specs though, great processor for the price.

Highly reccomend medions :)

I too have had three, all faulty.

I think they just attempt to resell returns which were obviously faulty in the first place.

Didn't have a problem getting a refund though - just more hassle than it's worth.
