Snap that is what I was going to ask. :-D

Just reading the fuller spec of sinlge phantom ship that's heavily reduced...it seems to have more features in the description, but it says 100 pieces for both? (the one in the playset lights up too...so perhaps they just scaled back the description?!). But how can the playset have an original rrp of £19.99, when the Phantom ship has the same rrp?

Anyway, I've reserved the playset & will do a viewing tomorrow to see if there's any obvious differences - if not the phantom ship is going back!
#14
The Pyrates playset consists of the Dread Eye Phantom ship, one slightly smaller ship and an island/harbour set. I bought two of these a couple of months ago for Christmas presents. They were £19.99 then which was a bargain in itself... at £12.99, if you have someone you can give it to, it's spectacular value. Also all three parts come in their individual boxes so splitting them for different children is easily done. Word of warning though if you buy the playset the box is quite heavy/cumbersome so you'll need to have transport handy for it.

Actually I think the RRP of the playset was actually something like £49.99! This is a fantastic bargain at £12.99If you have children aged 8-12 this would make a fantastic cheap Xmas present - just get one!
EDIT - just looked up my old records (I'm very sad like that) - we bought the playset for my kids 2 years ago and paid £47 in Costco, which even then was a bargain - so £12.49 is an absolute giveaway price.

Bought this earlier in the year bundled with two smaller ships.
My son loves this one. Heat added.
#17
Great find, Thanks, another one to hide away for christmas.
Heat and rep added

Wasn't planning to buy this - but will be good for Christmas. Voted hot. Thanks!

To answer my own earlier question, I have just picked up the playset and the Dread Eye Phantom ship is exactly the same item. For the 3 items at £12.49 what a fabulous present this is going to make. I couldn't believe how big the box was and yes a little heavy. This is definatley an Argos Wow Deal.
Thanks to OP for the heads up.

The £5.99 Dread Eye Phantom ship is also an excellent deal by itself

Yep I just got the £5.99 ship and it is a very big box and will make a fabulous birthday present for one of my son's class mates!

I hadn't seen the post about the £12.99 set before I went! doh!

Great bargain!
#21
Likewise I originally bought the Phantom ship @£5.99, but have just bought the playset...which is essentially the same ship but with a fort & another ship thrown in for just an extra £6.50...so it's got to be the one to go for (especially if you have more than one boy!).

I can confirm the weight & size makes it one to collect with transport nearby!
#22
Just collected mine. Box is stickered £49.99. Thanks OP - my little boy will be made up.:)

Does the bundle £12.99 come in three boxes or all in one? Sorry if this has already been answered x

Three individual boxes...& additionally, all three boxes came packaged inside a larger cardboard box.

Just checked all my local Argos stores and neither the £5.99 or £12.99 sets are available.

I know some shops that'll do this (can't remember if Argos do) but it MIGHT be worth having a word with your local store to see if they could maybe transfer the stock from a store that has it. Some companies are willing to do this, but it may take some time (a company I worked for used to transfer items from one part of London to another via Leicester?!?).
Hey, s'gotta be worth a phone call or dropping into the store as these 2 items are pretty hot discounts??!?

Just buy it you know you want to lol.....how many would be 8 year olds have been tempted to buy one of these to make up themselves? lol

Dammit - they're reduced the price of this to £4.99 now - just after I bought three the other day :(
At that price these go in the loft and my son's friends get one each every time he goes to a birthday party. Fantastic.

Why not order three more and just take the three you bought at full price back for a full refund??
#30
Anyone looking for the set in the NW, Leigh have 2 sets that I ordered and now can't pick up. they are held until tomorrow so if anyone is interested the ref. number is 102840.

If this is any use to anyone please mention it on here as I'd hate two people to go for the same sets.

I never bought them at full price - I bought them at £5.99 on Monday, and now they are reduced to £4.99! I just wasted £3 :(
Still some left in the Oxford/Wycobe/Dunstable area if you look around.

would a ten year old like this for christmas or do ten yr olds not play with this type of thing now?

When i mentioned this ship to my son who is 11 he liked the idea of having one. But he is into lego in a big way. He now wants me to get the bigger ship so if anyone knows where i can get one of the cheap i would love to know.

My 9/11 year olds loved this - and for a fiver you can't go wrong.

Do you mean the bigger boxed set? It contains the same ship as this offer, plus a smaller ship and a fort - cost £12.49.
There are still some around, but you have to hunt for them on the Argos website.
#35
Some stores have the fort to go with the ship for £2.49 which is half price.
#36
managed to get the pyrates play set £12.49 at Bulwell, Nottm, one big box with 3 individual boxes inside consisting of the large ship, smaller ship and fort. Easily makes 3 fantastic presents for Christmas and is now in the loft for youngest! Thanks to op!
instock at Melton Mowbray, item # 369/5955 if that helps anyone
