Nice one edi, good for anyone who missed out on the aldi offer.

I'm very tempted by this. I've just bought the Aldi one but its not very good so its going back. Now apparently you can upgrade this one via a serial cable to make it a proper dual record box as it's a record one watch one natively but you only then get a 2 day EPG.

Btw don't blame me if you break your box ;-)

Anyone know if you can 'pause live tv' with this box, and will the twin tuner allow me to record one channel and still watch another?
#4
If you click on the images for this they appear to show two slightly different designs/makes - one Vestel and the other Vistron.

That's the whole point of having 2 tuners. If they made ones that have 3 then you could record 2 and watch one... or if your TV has PIP then watch 2 and record 1 :santa:

Cheers Cuddy. Any Ideas if I can pause while I go to the loo, then start watching when I get back...

The Humax 9200T has PIP and you can record 2 channels and watch a 3rd (if from the same multiplex). Shame it's around £200 :)

but can I pause and poo???

Clever use of mirrors is the cheap option.

And if you had loads of tuners you could record the many property and makeover programmes that are broadcast every day and then watch them continuously until slowly, ever so slowly, your brain gives up the ghost and then wasps will be able to use the leftover cavity as a cosy nest :|

Or you could do something else with your time :-D

Good price for a lot of features but boy, is it ugly.

I'm in the market for a DVD recorder but, sorry, I wouldn't give it house room.

Takes me back to the days when maplins sold kits that you built yourself and I bought one of the first 6 game 'ping' console kits ( with tennis, Etc) - and it worked.

Topfield 5800 I have can do this, as well as record by keywords and much more if you add new programs to it.

Both Humax and Toppy also have USB, so you can transfer files to your PC.

Unfortunatly the Toppy is about £226 (cheapest i found was empire direct)

If your a tweaker the Toppy is the best, the humax is probably the best out of the box.

Quite agree.
I think the guy who missed the Aldi one had a lucky escape.

Other than having twice the capacity, is this the same unit as the Goodmans one in ASDA at the moment?

Would this recorder record from an external source ie Sky box via a SCART connection? Or does it only record freeview programs?
#18
Hmmm, I was tempted with this but if you have a look at digitalspy.co.uk it gets pretty crap reviews... :?

PVRs don't record from an external source.
A dvd recorder would have a scart socket for your requirement.

Does not seem like crap reviews to me. It lacks some features compared to more expensive boxes. But then if you are paying double the price you would expect more features.
At least this box seems to be pretty stable ( unlike a lot of the cheaper boxes - e.g the Aldi Tevions and its clones). The manufacturers (vestel) are still in business too, so it will get updates.
Some - like the Matsui models at currys won't get firmware updates as the manufacturer has folded ( access devices). So any bugs won't be ironed out.

I can't see a better buy than this, unless you want to pay £190+ for the Humax 9200.

Never pause your poo, it's painful.

And never have a curry a.k.a Fast Forward!

I got this deal a few weeks ago, and I must say it's completely brilliant. I cant compare to Humax, but everything I want is in this box!
