No to WAR!! Its such a shame that the binman and the train driver earns more in this country where as the risk of doing a job is far greater in the military. Also it should be way higher seeing the type of dangerous and illegal wars we are fighting at the moment, there will obviously be more risk when innocent people are killed compared to the normal war where troops fight troops... in short, this military people should be paid a way loads more... the more the illegal war the more the pay and the bonus if you come back alive.! some heat added btw...
Nobody forced them to join up! There doing a job they CHOSE, and are being paid for that job, occasionally having to fight a war the rest of the time one big jolly.

d19mes you obv have a itch on your back you cant scratch with this deal. How about show some respect if not move on and don't comment. people join the Armed forces and serve there country with pride and 90% of them go to war. Life in the forces is not always "one big jolly" as you stated. So stop with your comments.
no respect for anyone who kills innocent people, because there obeying orders. Freedom of speech and is that wrong because I don't agree with your point of view. Please tell me how YOU justify the killing of innocent people.

Ok then so we get rid of our armed forces. See what happens to everyone's freedom if it was not for our armed forces you would not be who you are today. Im not on here for a political debate as this is a deal posting site. As an ex serving soldier myself im willing stick up for the men and women i know still serving that are my friends that are out there right now protecting your freedom and the ground you walk on this new years day. Im not going to sit here and have an argument with you as i have no time for people like yourself that have no idea what there on about.
I wonder if you were only obeying orders, if the uk was invaded I would be fully behind the armed forces and would myself volunteer to be on the front line, however when we start wars in foreign country's for political gain, I do have an issue. I will state I am white British. However the waste of human life in Iraq is unacceptable. The solders of Iraq are only defending there country, as would we.

This is also for veterans (ex forces) also!

At long last the UK has sort to appreciate HM Forces. We still have a long way to go before we show the same support as the USA does to its serving and former serving forces personnel.

Not sure if you're just joking or poorly informed but veterans in the USA have a lot more formal support than those in the uk.

Shame there isn't an Emergency services thread too :(

there was a post a while back about one
the scheme on this thread is run by blue light card ltd on behalf of MoD, who also run a scheme for emergency services but the range of companies is poor. they're also supported by the sun who use it as a propaganda tool in their support of 'our lads, wahey, we love it.' just like the politicians, they're quick to associate themselves with us when planes fall out of the sky, but they won't hesitate to stitch us up with stories full of lies when it suits their political agenda, and for that reason you're about as likely to find a copy of it in a fire station as you are in liverpool. until they cut their ties with the scum, I and many of my colleagues won't go near the blue light card with a barge pole

it is a shame that companies aren't pro-active in offering discounts to emergency services, but i've found in my experience that some companies unofficially give something. nandos famously do, as do (some) dominos and subways. because they're franchises, it varies. i've sometimes only got 30% off full price pizza, collection only, but another time we stopped our truck outside dominos in uniform and they gave us the buy one get one free offer (which was available to everyone) and then when the pizzas were ready the manager came out and gave us half of our money back! the subway near my work are cheeky - they only give discount to coppers!
i know some people don't like to ask for discounts, but I think take what you can get - it's not like we get 6 figure bonuses or a company credit card for personal expenses, and often the person behind the till feels really happy in giving a little something back
i think part of the reason why is because teachers and NHS staff are pretty worthy too, so it becomes difficult to draw the line, and after a certain point you start eroding your profit margins for a significant chunk of your market. that said, i'm also an NUS registered student and have far more joy getting discount with that. from an objective point of view, i know students have less money, but think those in the emergency services are more worthy of discounts.

Do we need to start up a megathread of megathreads?

There was a time when a megathread was defined by the amount of posts and how long it had been running. Not by some numpty typing it in the title....
