who the hell still uses megaupload? Fileserve is where it's at these days.

Try telling that to the millions who use JDownloader.
i think if you go thru a us proxy it is only $199 so £128 pounds..

i bot a lifetime account when gbpusd was 2.00 so got a good rate of £100 for lifetime..

oh yeah: i wouldn't use it for keeping valuable data unless you also have it backed up elsewhere..

Just out of interest how is this any better than buying your own external drive and backing it up to that? Surely their drives are just as likely to fail as your own?
A single drive is just as likely to fail but this is where redundancy comes in. If one drive, or even more than one, fails, the data lives on because it is replicated on other drives. This is completely transparent, so if a drive fails, you will never know because your data is always available.

Also, where is your external hard drive? If it's in the same place as your PC then what happens if your house burns down or you get burgled?

Finally, you can access this from anywhere with a net connection. So your laptop can backup automatically while you are travelling.

Online backups are a good idea for really important, irreplaceable stuff (photos, important documents, the novel you are writing). However, I am not sure if Megaupload is a decent service for backups. Amazon S3 (e.g. via JungleDisk) is probably better. You can pay a low monthly fee (say $3.50 for 10GB of data).

That word "lifetime" - the legal eagles have decided it doesn't mean, er, lifetime.

It's probably as restricted as unlimited internet, texts and voice with mobile networks and ISPs.
