"Bluntinstrument | 07/11/2010 | See all Bluntinstrument's reviews (3) »

Used for 2 weeks so far. Very slim drive doesn't hog USB socket space. Price at Nov 2010 very attractive for 32Gb capacity, but the downside is the painfully slow transfer speed. Filling the drive in one go also leaves it rather warm to the touch, if only due to constant use for a long period"

Guess it isn't the fastest drive in the world.

For this kind of money you may as well pick up a 250GB HDD and sata enclosure at Amazon, for about £33.
Or a 320GB and enclosure for an extra £4

Nice price! Thank you for sharing.

I would confirm that those read/write speeds are not the quickest.

My little collection of USB drives specs tested with the H2testw.exe program:

Play 4Gb .... 10.8____ 4.95

Kingston DataTraveler 4Gb.... 11.8____ 5.55

Kingston DataTraveler 4Gb.... 10.6____ 4.88 [second drive]

Sony 8Gb.... 24.6____ 7.86

Buffalo 8Gb.... 32.2____ 8.11

Corsair GT 16Gb.... 29.1____ 17.5

Good price though if you feel you need the larger capacity. Having experienced my lot, I'd much rather have the speed....

Write speed: Up to 4MB/sec

If you need a 32GB drive, you don't need this. I'd be tearing my hair out at this speed!

It may be cheap, but this is not a hot deal, especially when you can get a 16GB drive with transfer speeds of 15MB/s Write and 30MB/s Read for £14.49 at Amazon.
#17
By my calculations it would take you over two hours to fill the thing

4MB/s x 60 secs = 240MB per minute
240MB/m x 60 mins = 14400MB per hour
14.4GB/hr x 2.2 hrs = 31.680GB
#18
Indeed; 2 hours to fill the drive is painful.

Get 2x16GB mentioned above and you'll have an effective write speed of almost 10x that.

I wonder if it's possible to software RAID USB drives....... it appears you can!

(looks like) are the words here you have started a frenzy of read and write speeds which prob are not the (write) one

Not everyone needs performance.
This is ideal for technophobes who need to back up and store 16-32GB data with the minimum of hassle, i.e many years worth and increasing family photos.
#21
It may well do double that speed mind
as when they have to fit more chip in for bigger sizes
sometimes the easiest way is to sort of raid 0 them
we need to get someone to benchmark a 32gb one
#22
anyone bought one of these and able to share the real world read/write speeds? (or just write, assuming the read speed isn't slower ;) )

Slowly (it's next to useless really) the hassle is the slowness

What are you paying £26.99 for when for example a 250 gig portable hdd today at play is £29.99 (yeah it don't fit well on a keychain but neither does this cheap plastic china pen

My sister would put the kettle on, do some washing or ironing and even pull the stick out the following morning if need be.
Thats why I used the word 'technophobe' they would have no idea what fast or slow was, or care about bechmarks. Most technophobes arnt even backing data up and do so by being urged by someone who has lost data.
A cheap, small, no wires( even slow) USB stick is still the minimal hassle for these people.
