Not much info on the website about how it works.
Mentions Bluetooth a lot but also: GPS Location and Retrieval (Must be connected to a mobile network) ?
Want these for our cats but want them working on mobile data instead of Bluetooth and don't want to be pinned down to the manufacturers subscriptions...
These will connect to your phone using low power bluetooth 4, and when they go out of range the phone app logs the phone's current location, so you can check where you were when it went out of range after you lost the item it was attached to. In addition the tag and app will bleep. On a cat it would only really tell you that they are not nearby, not convinced that they are that useful for finding lost keys either.
Thanks for taking the time to say all that :) mind made up - not what we're after!

You're welcome,

Just noticed a tiny GPS tracker that might be more practical for tracking a cat, although it doesn't look waterproof so probably would need a small container to keep rain out :- http://www.banggood.com/Pets-Cats-Dogs-Mini-GPS-Tracker-Children-Vehicle-Locator-Thief-Proof-Tool-Personal-SOS-Alarm-p-1085021.html?rmmds=detail-bottom-relatedproducts
Ziggy, have you looked into this gizmo for your cats: http://www.podtrackers.com ?
I found it useful, but a bit of a faff changing the battery every few days; if your cats don't stroll away too far, a much better option IMHO is the loc8tor: works by radio frequency, over about 200 feet, batteries last months, no subscription required, just the initial purchase.

Isn't this VERY slow write for a USB 3.0 ? Can't be arsed enough to check TBH, but pretty sure
(Edit: 9 to 15 - that is slower than some usb 2.0's)

Juccee is actually better than a generic brand. They sell for £6.99+ even on Amazon. I have used the brand for a while now, and I think the build quality is better than most.
Not for everyone, but could be useful to someone.

I wasn't aware of this, thank you for informing me, appreciate it. You are right, not a bad looking brand.
drnkbeer
Have to say I don't think this is too good. After all a generic no name portable charger with 2600Mah should be about half the price of this one and even with the car charger you just about break even i'd say. Though it is a Philips car charger so that's a plus point. Voting hot, but it's not for me.

yeah I regret big time purchasing this one, speeds drop to 18MB/s super slow
Hukd'ers put too much emphasis on heat sometimes. A fried stick can be replaced for a tenth of cpu cost. And data loss is not an issue unless the stick data is your only copy, which is unlikely.

seems a cool concept if a little expensive for what it is hmm
It depends, I think, if the bag is simply a plastic bag, rather than waterproof fabric, then I will be a little disappointed.
And I thought the closure was maybe by ziplock but it appears it is by drawstring. I don't quite see how they can say it is waterproof, if it is simply a drawstring. When I get mine, I'll post the results here :)

It is a textured plastic bag, although the inside is coated with something which probably stops it leaking at the sewn seams. And it is closed by a drawstring :(

They really need to design these to have a standard sized USB 3.1 too. Just limits it's use so much
They have USB sticks with both types of USB on them for the people who want both, this is just a version for people who only need the Type C end, which if you have a computer and a phone with a Type C port and don't stick your dongle into unknown computers a Type C only stick is probably all you need. Don't read too much into the 3.1 bit the speeds are still much slower than 3.1 Gen 1 which are the same as 3.0.
Personally (and just going from the pictures) I think they could've made it a bit better looking for a 'futuristic' Type C only drive, but the dual version drives are probably a better buy for most people right now.
Really? i didnt know they made dual usb-c / 3.1 sticks? I've got a dual micro-usb / 3.0 but ive never seen the former.
I wonder when we will see a usb stick actually using the 3.1 speeds. 2 years maybe... I'm still trying to find a pcie m.2 enclosure that has usb-c so I can get more 500MB/s externally. seems like that's a pipe dream at the moment too.
They do indeed there's a few to buy from different manufacturers on the likes of Amazon and this is the newly announced dual version of this Ultra one, the dual Type C drives also have the advantage of both ends being 3.0/3.1 Gen 1 unlike the micro USB dual drives where only the Type A side is 3.0/3.1 Gen 1.
There's a couple of ways to get those kinds of speed externally the nicest looking being a portable SSD such as this by SanDisk or this buy Samsung, they're not as small or as cheap as thumb drives but they are a good solution with the Samsung even being Type C.
Thanks for the info about the dual type-c sticks, I hadn't seen those. As for external SSDs, both the ones you sent aren't PCIe, they're only SATA and don't go above 500MBs. There is a Sandisk Extreme 900 model that goes up to 800MBs or so, but it's 2 SATA drives in raid 0 using USB-C. It's huge, expensive and also doesn't count as a PCIe SSD. Annoyingly there are a few enclosures that claim to be PCIe but aren't.
Wake up SanDisk and release USB 3.1 Gen 2 products.

No reviews for it, and it doesn't state the speeds (only for the lower capacities: "Speed(3): 16GB, 32GB, 64GB : 40MB/s read, 10MB/s write", which look like USB 2.0 speeds). Attractive price, but does it have attractive performance?
This is the amazon price of £23.99 with plenty of reviews and tech specs. click me

I wonder if Memorybits have copied and pasted the info from a USB 2.0 version of this drive?

EDIT: On Amazon, recent reviews would seem to suggest decent read and write speeds. Have emailed Memorybits and asked them to check the details on the product page for this item.

Apologies, it was a tonge-in-cheek jab at this item that has a reputation for becoming grossly hot when in use. Also a ref to same in post #2. I now rarely use my 64GB UltraFit for fear of causing heat damage to the client USB socket.
