I'm not personally a fan but whatever, thought this was a pretty good price as Metallica albums rarely go this cheap.

Not a bad deal, but you're definitely, definitely better pirating it and downloading the Guitar Hero-sourced version of the record. The standard CD has seriously nasty sound quality. It's compressed so tight that it's constantly at full volume, so it just sounds flat and dull. The Guitar Hereo-sourced pirate copy doesn't suffer the same compression issues, so you get a far better sounding album that's far closer to what the producer submitted as his finished work, before the guys at the label screwed it up for the sake of the Loudness War. Google about it, you'll see loads of info about it.

Piracy FTW!

^ Tit.

Don't pirate it, I don't endorse it, and I'm sure HUKD don't either, so no need to recommend pirating an album as rocking as this one.

Superb deal! Suicide and Redemption is one of the best tracks of the past decade.

That pic looks like a mosher's F*nny!!

Massive metallica fan, fact is I think they've lost it! This album is Metallica being 'lost' trying to copy all their back catalogue because it's what they think the fans want! It's not nice to say but they're obviosly a better band when they are drinking! Too many hang ups now to let the music show!

The only reason the guitar hero one has a different volume is because in every guitar hero song the volume of the guitars is increased over the other instruments.

Gonna see 'em on May 12th!! The SQ on this album is crap btw, pity as it's a good album. Hot!
#12
Good album - "End of the line" is great track

saw them in manchester last year - was a good gig :D
#13
One of the best albums if not the best they've made. This deal would be freezing if it was Load/Reload/St. Anger instead.
#14
Fantastic album. Their best in a long time...

Actually, it's my second favourite Metallica album after AJFA.

I've just done some research on what 'dxx' was saying regarding the Guitar Hero versions. It turns out that regarding the sound quality he is quite correct. Just checked out some graphs comparing the difference between the CD version and GH version. The GH version is much more dynamic and less compressed than the CD version. I've owned the album since it came out, and have now heard the GH rip. Wow, they should really remaster this album.

Uh-uh. The original album was re-mastered by the label in order to make it sound louder than it actually was. This results in a lot of clipping (notably the drums are drowned out by the guitar) and a poor sound quality - lot of ***** kicked up about this on the internet. The Guitar Hero version was mixed from the original version before the label got their hands on it. It's a much cleaner and crisper version of the same album!

Oh yeah, good deal!

Fantastic price for a stunning album. Voted hot!

Saw them in Manchester last February - probably their best gig I have ever seen!................ and I have seen a few!

Joking right ? Better than MOP ? No chance. That was one of all the all time classics in rock let alone in their own catalogue. When Cliff died the real Metallica died.It was held together for a while when Jason arrived but they werent the same. And the load and reload stuff was a fashion experiment badly gone wrong. I was lucky enough to see them with Cliff and have to say was a groundbreaking band, now sadly have totally lost their way which i am very sad to see, still good live though i will say that and i do like rob from his days with ST..........ok rants over and i feel very old ;-)

How bad is the CD? I downloaded the album from Amazon when they had the 29p per album fiasco last year, so I only ever listen to it on the computer and the Walkman, where the sound is acceptable. I've never listened to it on the main hi-fi.

The issues with the sound become much more apparent with higher end equipment.

They lost their way about 20 year ago, but Death Magnetic is an awesome thrash metal album as it is.

I got this on release and got a hold of the GH version. The GH version is clearly better, and this was on my HiFi separates, through the PC on £20 Sennheiser earbuds and in the Blaupunkt MP3 car stereo.

I only listen to the GH version but I'll always buy the original CD anyway as I like to have the physical artwork and something for my CD rack.

I've been waiting for the day this album was available at a price like this. Though it would never come!

One of Metallica's finest efforts, right up there with '...and Justice For All' easily.

My version came with the Death in a Coffin box and I've never had any problems with the audio. I played this album for like 6 months straight on my iPod so I know it from cover to cover. So many highlights,End of the Line, Broken Beat and Scarred, Cyanide, All Nightmare Long, The Judas Kiss - along with others like The Day That Never Comes. They would hold their own on any Metallica album. I saw them 3 times at the O2 London recently and I'm glad to say James' voice is well and truly back after it disappeared for most of the earlier noughties.

My Father,( who is in his late 50's) and a rock music fan even bought himself a copy, then told me a few months later that it's as good as anything they've ever done - and moreover was better than anything he'd heard in the last decade. Fair praise indeed.

Great deal, well done to any who snapped it up.

I would/could have happily continued to listen to the album with the CD release mastering, the album is good enough to and I just accepted it. I did notice the sound distorted in some parts though, especially through headphones. When I heard there was something better out there I sourced it and never looked back...

If you know the album that well (I was listening to it non-stop too) then you should spot the differences (benefits) instantly

I've been waiting for them to release a remastered version. As has been said, the CD version is atrocious. Distortion, clipping, and very little range - I find it unlistenable. Like many, I tried the GH3 version instead which is so much better.

It's not a bad album. You can tell they are trying to recreate their earlier stuff but even then it feels aged compared to MOP or RTL. Superior to Load, Reload, and St Anger though.

I continue to wait...

Yep St Anger was crap!

Anyone who cursed their luck for missing out are in luck... it's back at £2.99 again. For how long though!
