Between 1983 and 1988 Metallica put out 4 of the greatest, most influencial heavy metal albums of all time. Depending on your opinion you might also consider 1991s Black album as the 5th masterpiece they put out (or you may consider it a sell out) but where ever you consider the cut off point, Metallica in their heyday were to metal what the Beatles were to pop or the Clash to punk.

Everything after that has been middle aged guys with too much money and not enough creative spark living off their legacy.

Its a shame 89-2004 represents all the rubbish Metallica years.

They started being rubbish from mid-nineties (from the Load album as lot of people say). This DVD contains some songs before that period like:
One
Enter Sandman
The Unforgiven
Nothing Else Matters
Wherever I May Roam
Sad But True

Even from the rubbish period there are still some good songs like:
Until It Sleeps
I Disappear
St. Anger

The bonus material is also unbelievable:
One [Jammin' Version]
The Unforgiven [Theatrical Version]
Some Kind Of Monster

Although I listen to black and death metal mostly I still like Metallica and I have this DVD. It is a must for every Metallica fan.
Also, I play the drums, and although Lars doesn't compare very favourably with black and death metal drummers I can still learn a thing or two from him - he's a brilliant talented drummer. You gotta remember that Metallica started playing in the late seventies/early eighties when other bands used to sing 'oh baby' in every other song, so lot of respect for them being one of the leading heavy (or whatever they classify themselves) metal bands.
