Awesome game, I got it when the THQ pack was cheap in the last big Steam sale. I loved every minute of it! Well worth £6...

£6 for the game, £400 for the graphics card that can play it on decent settings.
#7
very good price. metro isnt bad, but not the best. gameplay feels like stalker but a lot more claustrophobic and linear
#8
Great game is perhaps pushing a bit too far. Ok game I'd say, but worth the asking price if you cannot afford better games.

If the trailer is anything to go by then it seems to be a blatant rip off of S.T.A.L.K.E.R!

Nice exaggeration. I hate it when people take their computer illiteracy out on others.

This will play fine on a 8800GT at high settings but I guess you don't know what that is - lets just say it's less than a quarter of the price you stated.

As I find myself more frequently saying to myself when I see posts on PC gaming related topics on here - DERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPPPPP

HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

From dodgy memory the people making this game were involved in S.T.A.L.K.E.R and there was some sort of falling out so half left and made this game isntead of the sequels to Stalker, it's a new engine but there's been legal challenges over the suggestion that they basically nabbed stalker tech.

As an aside at £6.12 that's probably just over a pound per hour that you'll get out of this game, it's very short and has little replay value, I was just over 5 hours first playthrough.

So you want to kick people in the balls for the lulz? Not cool.

good game but quickly falls into 'sneak and fight up narrow tunnel, defeat waves of mutants, barter a bit, repeat'. same team as stalker games and like them is very nearly excellent in setting plot and combat but at the end of the day doesn't really come together. still easily worth the price but you will tire of narrow tunnels and frankly get a bit narked at how very good it almost is.

When people can't see a blatant case of sarcasm / taking the mickey - it makes me want to go to their house, give them my best "you are an idiot" look, and then facepalm.

p.s. I constantly mock the internet language (sorry it went over your head this time), I hate social internet sites, I'm probably older than you, and kicking me in the groin wouldn't really have much of an effect.

So play fallout and collect tin cans, then kill a mutant, then collect some tin cans.. ;D

Actually my girlfriend has OCD in fallout - she has to pick up *everything* and stash it somewhere. I'm talking every. single. bent. tin. can. Clipboards. Pencils. You name it, it's in (one of) her lockers or boxes.

It makes me go OMG LOL WTF LULZ (see what I did there jaydee?)

I say my dear chap, I'd like to know what is inferred when one mentions this mysterious "graphics-card". Is it a gift one might send to one's mother, like a "birthday card" or is it somewhat like a "business card" except with delightful pictures on it depicting the nature of my business?

Aha! I only jest, for I actually have what I feel is one of the best graphics cards on the market - a Radeon 5970. It has two GPU's on one board you know, making it quite unique.

Oh I got you, didn't I sir! I bet you thought I really didn't know what a graphics card is! Oh, ha ha ha!

Running on 8800GT on high settings?? Not a chance! Framerate is still low even on 800 x 600 resolution, unless of course you have a high-high-high-high-end CPU to compensate, even then im sceptical.

have the game, have the gpu (8800GT), dont have the framerate = no gameplay!
#26
Actually the 8800 was my previous card and ran the likes of stalker just fine @ 1280..

Honestly you shoudln't have any issues. just make sure you have all the bells and whistles turned off (complex shadows, anti-aliasing, etc.) and make sure they aren't forced ON in your graphics card settings as well.

Saying it happened in the past is *irrelevant* and means nothing when talking about a current deal. Kudos to you at the time for communicating out the steam sales that any hardcore gamer already knew about.. but I think you're being a bit silly saying under half price isn't a good deal in the "now". That's the cheapest it's been for months.

Often if you miss a deal like that it *won't* happen again. it was a one off to boost sales and is more of a publicity / marketting stunt than anything. Did it work? yes! Now everyone wants torchlight!

If you want to wait for steam to get that price again.. not. gonna. happen. They got exactly what they wanted out of that temporary price drop.

The next time you'll be able to get it cheap is probably as a freebie with the sequel or some-such.

Interesting theory silkhuk but unfortunately the facts don't support it. Titan Quest Gold, the STALKER pack, L4D, Overlord and Bioshock have all been "on sale" in the last six months and are now back "on sale" on Steam. All of those are the same price the second time around as they were the first (except L4D). And those are just the ones I know about because I bought them.
#31
Titan Quest Gold was cheaper months before the latest deal, which backs me up (I bought it then btw). L4D yes that's the cheapest it's been so far, but it'll never be that cheap again, which also backs me up.

btw the titan quest thing was about 99p per game.

Sometimes they do uber cheap to get interest, but it's a one off.

If torchlight is cheaper than the deal I posted anytime before the sequel is released, I'll eat my hat. It's a real shame the deal didn't take off, I honestly believe you won't get it cheaper anytime soon. I already own it, got it in the uber sale. was thinking about you lot.

You don't half talk a lot of crap.

Looking at the games I have purchased in previous sales that are also available in the current bout of sales:

Bioshock is now £3.49, I paid £3.49 on 1 July 2010.
The Overlord complete pack is now £6.24, I paid £6.24 on 25 June 2010.
The STALKER bundle is now £6.24, I paid £6.24 on 21 August 2010.
Titan Quest Gold was recently £2.49, I paid £2.49 on 5 February 2010.

Devil May Cry 4 is more expensive now than it was when I got it on 3 July 2010 (now £6.99, I paid £3.75).

The point here is that you know diddly squat about Steam pricing trends, despite your "28 years of experience" or whatever it was you were going on about.

"L4D yes that's the cheapest it's been so far, but it'll never be that cheap again, which also backs me up."

You can't even get this simple fact right. It was cheaper in June (£4.42). Maybe that still backs you up as your theories don't seem to be troubled by facts whatsoever.

Hi alastri, how are you today? :D

The games you've listed there are not what I'd class as a high calibre of games, so not surpised they have dropped in price again.

I don't know why you feel the need to get personal (I won't respond in kind). I do think we have crossed wires somewhere about L4D. I was referring to the package in October's sale, which I purchased for cheaper than the price you've quoted from June..
:
5 Oct 2010
£7.81
Purchase
Left 4 Dead Bundle

£3.40 per game.

The cheapest they've ever been, and I don't think they'll drop like that again any time soon - just like I don't think Torchlight will ever be under £4 again like it was in the original big sale.

Also, titan quest was part of a bundle when I purchased it, I checked and it was 6 games for £12.60. That's £2.10 per game and technically gold is two games, so I wasn't far off, was I?. I doubt it'll ever be that cheap again but who knows, they do go crazy with the bundle packages.

So much about the appeal of this game is its storyline, which heavily relies on the environment of the game to tell part of the story - the very bells and whistles your talking about are needed to immerse the player into the game, without it, it simply looks horrendous. So much detail is lost and virtually no lighting or shadows or volumetric smoke!

8800GT simply doesn't cut the mark, on any resolution (that's with the bell & whistles switched off) It surprised me considering a xbox 360 can handle it with some decent effects.

Xbox is running at a much lower resolution - think it's usually 720?

You don't need anti-aliasing. I know you get jagged edges without it, but I don't think that affects atmospherics in a game. Heck if anything it's the sound of a game that really draws you in.. lights out, volume up and all that ;)

furi0n - not sure mate, not used that card. Check on tom's hardware or something :)
