Called at my local PC World (Wrexham) yesterday and picked up a Metronic Freeview set top box with remote and scart cable included for £1.97.

Also supplied with Setanta card but as we all know this channel is now defunct. The box receives alll Freeview channels. Bargain in my opinion. They still had a couple of boxes left. The code on the receipt is 638050.

#22
Is there any kind of online stock checker or do I have to ring my local stores one by one? (There are loads!)
#23
Just back from East Kilbride where they have 1 ex display unit left. I was going to buy it but the PC world guy couldn't find the box so no remote or power supply included making it kinda useless even at £1.97. He checked stock in other stores. 1 in Glasgow Braehead, 1 in Aidrie and 2 in Dundee apparently. Not worth the drive for me so thought I'd give others the heads up . Nice little compact freeview receiver, well worth £2.

And check your local Curry's too. If they've got any then they'll be the same price. East Kilbride had none.

Where did you look, though thanks for the laugh, as it's not in everone's vocabulary set?

' gullible
• adjective easily persuaded to believe something; credulous.

— DERIVATIVES gullibility noun gullibly adverb.'

These PC world clearance deals should be banned from here. Complete and utter waste of time.

Some places won't take credit cards if you spend under £5.
"Apparently" costs them £2 every time a card is used.
If that's true, PC World would be 3p down on the deal if they let you use a credit card.:-D:-D:-D

well i bought stuff before in pc world under a fiver using credit card :) not recently though
my only regret is that last year i did not buy " Area 51" xbox game (1p) using my credit card, slipped up badly there!

Why, I already confirmed there was stock in my local area. I'm sure there's plenty more around the rest of the UK. Someone will get a bargain out of this. I almost did had they not lost the remote and PSU.

For such a large firm, the commission will probably be less than 1%. Merchants are charged a percentage of the sale when you pay on CC, and a set fee (a few pence) when you pay by debit card. Hence the reason cashback is only offered on debit card purchases

IT'S AN OUTRAAAAAGE!!!!!

Digital set top boxes have to be of reasonably good quality to work with the weak signal we've been lumbered with until the switch over. My experiences indicate that it's not just signal strength and aerial quality, the box itself makes a difference. It may only be £1.97 if you can find one but it might be a false economy if it doesn’t work properly.

The Acoustic Solutions DV600B works very well and costs around £20, if you can track one down. Others of similar quality cost more.
