Got one the other day.
Cheese was dated 8th Jan 2015 and the chutney stuff Sep 2015 or similar. Half of one block left ;)
Lovely cheese although the peppers are spread out too much so some bits are mild, others have a kick.

There was an Applewood one for the same price.

All terrible, have tried them.
Crumbly, fall apart, no cheese flavor, nothing authentic about them.
Cold from me

I totally love this stuff. Bought loads even though it is the standard 8th Jan date. Of note it is "Best By" not "Use By" 8th Jan 15.

Recommend if you are eating lots of this that you should also watch LOTR. Even if it is just to understand about rings being destroyed! oO

Happy New Year folks!

Screw food dates for cheese folks, don't take it too seriously. (these are dried chillies) longevity depends on the temperature & moisture in your fridge, which if it is a modern unit is less likely to suffer condensate, as well as a dedicated container for cheese (tefal fromage caveau) & lower than 5c on your fridge setting the combination of which will mean you don't have to scoff cheese hurriedly anymore (i've said this too often now) :( ..however as someone who cold smokes, wraps, stores & ages his cheeses dates are not something I bother about too much.
Learn which cheeses freeze (so you can glut store for sauces, cheese on toast etc) ..& this cheese does make good cheese on toast!

If your cheese i looking a bit mouldy when it shouldn't I recommend you look at your storage & the prospect of re-wrapping it in fresh clingfilm (as the mouldy cheese spores are in contact with the packaging.

I'm currently noshing my way through 3 slabs of proper tasty mr waitrose red leicester (from the only proper cheesery there) which was priced for short date some months ago, however the caveau de fromage & the modern fridge mean I can be lazy with what I've got to keep an eye on, complete with charcoal filter it keeps cheeses in great condition.

(just had 4 kilo's of Mozzarella in there, ..busy busy)

Thanks for a very intersting and informative post MR GUS! :D

No problem, Trust me, the seemingly innocuous plastic box with carbon filter initially seems overpriced, but the large unit should accomodate an ardent cheese fan or couple, you should never have dried out lumps again, they store incredibly well & will save you money on blocks of cheese you'd otherwise guzzle!
The mexicana (a semi processed cheese favourite of mine) is via this company who if you bought any of the other cheese gift packs from the big supermarkets produced all the different flavours
http://www.ilchester.co.uk/ ..who are part of these folk http://www.norseland.com/ ..between them they pretty well cover a wide spread of favoured cheeses

My local Asda had all the Xmas cheeses on sale...

The best was the Stilton/Port pack - 150g Stilton, 200ml Port... for £1.25 :)

Make Mash Potatoes, Grate 100 grams of cheddar and mix into the mash place into an oven dish, and grate mexicana on top and place in over at 180/GM 6 for 30 minutes YUM! with lamb chops.

Well typically vomit smells of the last thing you've eaten so it can smell of pretty much anything.

I got a pack of this for Christmas from my son and we both thoroughly loved it. Competition to see who could eat the biggest slice without our eyes watering, he won lol
