Micro Scalextric is awful. Please don't buy this and save up for the real thing - it's infinitely better.

N.B. I lucked out a couple of years ago when I bought a Micro James Bond set, sent it back when it broke after roughly one hour of use, and received a full size James Bond Scalextric set in return.

With this set can I hold the trigger down the whole time and the cars still won't come off in the corners? If so this isn't a deal.

no, the cars will launch themselves into your furniture if you do that. the only downside i see is the track will be very short with just one set, with no decent straight away to let the cars fly. could get boring quick.

i joined a set we got for my son many Christmases ago which lived under the bed for years with a few incomplete sets bought for next to nothing on ebay. lots of extra track and few more cars.

I set up a nice circuit with a huge straight away the length of our livingroom with them. Also setup an android tablet with slot car timing software to record and call out lap times (not complicated, it does by detecting the magnetic disturbance from the car going past, just have it close to track), as an added bonus I chromecast it to the big 50" tv. Great fun trying to beat the best lap times, which obviously leads to a little bit of modding here and there on the cars to get more performance. My grandson loves it!

there's a lock on the controller that you can set for children, which reduces the controller to maximum half throttle

Had the simpsons micro scalextric and the part that connects the car to the track broke after a short while, so we took it back and exchanged it for a new set. The same happened again within the hour, so we took it back and got a refund. You get 2 spare parts of the breakable part included, which shows they know its a weak point.
