The Phicom deal I posted has now rocketed 50% in price, but this is even cheaper, by a pound, for much the same functionality- Wireless Mode Access Point, Router, Repeater, Bridge and Client. Nevertheless, there will be at least three posters who claim that is must be useless because they can't think of why they would want to use it in one of these ways. The main difference between this and the now more expensive Phicom or TPLink units is that it doesn't plug straight into a socket. It is powered by a USB power supply (not supplied, you only get the cable), which may be more convenient when travelling abroad. It will even run on a car USB charger!

Supports IEEE 802. 11b/g/n 2.4 GHz, Advanced wireless N technology delivers exceptional speed up to 150 mbps

Not sure what you mean by boosting. It can be used as a range extender- you place it at the edge of your existing WiFi coverage and it extends the range further as a repeater. As in, with your main WiFi router on the ground floor, you could put this on the first floor and get WiFi up in the top floor..

Can this be used as a mifi device?

Don't think so. I can't see how you would connect it to a phone or dongle that did not already have WiFi output. MiFi is a registered trademark, by the way.

If you want a mobile hotspot, there is one HERE that will accept a 3G USB modem, is battery powered, and is pretty cheap too.

Or THIS ONE, even cheaper, but ships from Hong Kong.

The page on Amazon is not very informative, which is why I posted the link to another supplier in comment #3. That page says, "Supports IEEE 802. 11b/g/n 2.4 GHz, Advanced wireless N technology delivers exceptional speed up to 150 mbps." The pack shot from an eBay seller also says 11n and 150mbps.

Very informative post, thanks. I just wonder why they try to sell items without saying what they are. Strange.

I would cancel the order tbh, these are great at what they do but you would be better served by a dedicated repeater if that's all you want to do. You will get a much stronger and farther reaching signal than this can achieve.
