Hadn't realised this had been released - though the recent plunge in price of the Microsoft Office 2007 Home & Student edition from c£100 to c£60 should have given the game away!

Apparently it's only at PC World for now - from 20/10 onwards. I saw an advert in today's Independent newspaper - it's their product code 634235

Your 12-month renewable subscription includes:
* Windows Live OneCare antivirus, antispyware, firewall, online identity theft protection, automated tune-ups, file and photo backup, and multi-PC management
*Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 Word 2007, Excel 2007, PowerPoint 2007, and OneNote 2007
* Windows Live tools Mail, Messenger, Photo Gallery, Writer, and Toolbar
* Automatic security updates and version upgrades for Office Home and Student and OneCare
* Free e-mail support
* Use for up to 3 home PCs

Full details of the "Microsoft Equipt" product/package at Microsoft UK:

What seems to be DIFFERENT to just buying Office2007H&S is that this is a SUBSCRIPTION package and while your subcription is active you get FREE updates even to the Office software BUT if your Sub has lapsed (in 12m time) you can still open/print with the Office software but NOT edit !!!!
See the FAQs on the Microsoft UK site (link above).

Incidentally the yanks can buy this for $69.99 at Circuit City (per Microsoft USA) which translates to just £44, ie we have to pay 36% more :( Though I guess their spelling dictionaries are shorter due to their only being able to cope with words in American English.

Why on earth do you want to pay £60 a year for MS Office.

I cannot see how anyone can believe its a decent deal.

You aren't buying JUST MS Office and you ARE buying OneCare for 3 PCs AND no-one said that the renewal subscription was £60 (though I can't see what it IS meant to be) AND you do get "unlimited e-mail customer support".
Is it not the case that "MS Office is for life (not just for christmas) - the oncecare is for the for the year and you dont have to ever install it !!
I think "eek" is RIGHT to be concerned about the 12m nature of your ability/right to use the MS Office 2007 Home & Student - ie it's time bombed software UNLESS you continue to subscribe!

The bonus is that IF MS release a MS Office 2009 or similar during your 12m subscription then you get that automatically - though that too will stop working (ie become just a viewer/printer) when your sub' lapses!

MS Office 2007 H&S - with an ongoing licence - is around £55-£60 but as you say WITHOUT OneCare (around £15-£25) and WITHOUT any Office version UPGRADES, only updates.

It does however seem that the £60 is meant to be PER YEAR which is daylight robbery compared to OpenOffice/GoogleDocs etc - well at least posting this is valid is it IS the best deal on Equipt - it's exclusive to PC World apparently (as it is to Circuit City in the US since mid July 2008) - and helps get the issues debated here.
If you have any kids in school and are happy to just be able to install on one desktop and one laptop, then the offers at software4students are much better. I got MS Office with Access, Outlook and Publisher for about £45.
Some places of work belong to Home use Program, such as BT. I got MS Office 2007 for:

Product Name: Office Enterprise 2007 Win32 English Direct DVD Home Use
Qty: 1
Unit Price: 17.31
Item Total: 17.31 GBP
So the good news was this worked out to be a fantastic deal for me as MS gave up on Equipt and gave a pro-rata refund AND a copy of MS Office Home & Student 2007 (for 3 PCs). So for under £10 net cost I had the use of Office/OneCare for 6 months or so and ended up with legit MS Office 2007 on 3 PCs for next to nothing = result!

(Those thinking it was a lousy deal = right of course at the time, but not in hindsight.)
