I am no lover of Microsoft but since my 3 months for 99p with Google Play expired I have been very keen to find a new music streaming service I can mooch off. Today I received an email from Microsoft that you could get 4 months free streaming with their Groove service. I signed up (paid with PayPal) and it seems OK.

The deal seems to be that you sign up for one month that is free and at some point during August you will receive a promotional code that gives you an extra 3 months free. Normally it costs £8.99 a month and of course you'll automatically be charged unless you cancel it. I set a reminder on my computer to warn me.

*Offer valid until 17 August, 2016.. Customer must sign up for paid monthly subscription. Credit card required. Upon completion of first billing cycle, customer will receive via email a promo code valid for 90 days of Music Pass at no charge. Limit of 1 promo code per customer, single use only. Promo code must be used by 31 August, 2016. Not valid on prior orders or purchases; cannot be transferred or otherwise redeemed for cash. Not combinable with other offers. UK only. Groove Music Pass catalogue size and availability varies by market and over time. Microsoft account and internet required; ISP fees apply. Works with Windows 10, PCs, tablets and phones, Windows 8.1, Windows Phone 8, Xbox One and Xbox 360 (Xbox Live required). Works with Sonos, Android and iPhone; see app stores. Requires up to 100 MB storage. Download music on up to 4 devices (not available on Xbox and the Web). Stream to one device at a time. Subject to terms (which may change without notice) at microsoft.com/msa. For service usage rules click here.

According to the email i received the information now in the title is not correct (a mod changed my version of the title)

Up to 4 months of free music
From now to August 17th, get up to 4 months of music for free when you sign up for a Music Pass.* If your're brand new to Groove, enjoy your free month-long trial. During the first 30 days, we'll email you a code for 3 more months - 90 days - of music, on the house. Get millions of songs wherever you roll, plus artist radio, playlists, and custom mixes made just for you. But hurry - this deal ends in a flash.

----------

Certainly my first "bill" came to £0.00 because I'm a new user.

Cold votes from MS haters, how can 4 months of free music possibly be cold??
And for the record, I'm a groove user, got lucky on US Pi day a couple of years back... It's not the same value as some of the family plans, but for a single user, it's great. Superb catalogue too...

It's a bit confusing because the first page says you pay for the first month and then the next three months are free but when you click on the link it's says if you're a new user you get the first 30 days free. Certainly I paid nothing. I don't care how people vote for it, I got 4 months free music!

If its 4 months free then great! Update the title for heat

If its 4 months for £8.99, then its not going to do well against 3 months free with deezer so won't get hot
http://www.hotukdeals.com/freebies/deezer-premium-3-months-for-free-for-new-existing-clients-without-active-subscription-2493244

but the terms do read like they'll charge you at the end of month 1 and then send you out the code

To be honest I am not sure. From the email I gathered it was four free months if you were not already a member.

ok - it sounds like

If you've not used your Groove trial, at some point during your trial month you'll get a code for 3 months free
and if you apply that at the very end of your trial then that would be 4 months free.

If you've used a Groove trial already and you buy 1 month, we'll send you a code for 3 months free

Heat added. For most people this is up to 4 months of music free.

Typical Microsoft, they do the hard stuff well but screw up the easy bits - like explaining what they've done

Hi OP, I got the same email and started the trial. You don't need to set a reminder to cancel it, as you can cancel it straight away by turning off the Auto-renewal option under your account settings. You still get the 30 days free and they will probably still send out a code for the 90 days after.

I found the android app quite glitchy so took up 2 months free Spotify instead!

The Android app, until recently was utter bobbins. My wife uses android, and it was pants. It has recently been updated, and is better but is still not great.
MS have a roadmap that is meant to be bringing IOS and android into line with the windows versions, which is a really good app.

I do hope they fix it soon.

I mainly listen to music when on the move be it in the car, walking, running etc. and so rely on the mobile apps.

The catalogue of music seems really good, sadly the app has issues like frequent crashes if paused and restarted, slow start ups, artist's album details disappear once an album is saved to your music (you then have to re-select the artist to bring up their albums if you want to add another album to your collection). If you're browsing a long list of say albums by various artists and select an album to view it, however then decide you want to go back and continue viewing the list, it will take you to the top of the list and so you will have to remember where you got to and scroll back down to where you left off.

It's a shame as there's so much potential, but all these issues are sadly not what you want to experience when on the move.

Once fixed however it could be up there with the best.

We've had such a mixture of music players from Microsoft over the years that it's no wonder people get confused (Windows Media Player, Zune, Xbox Music, Media Centre and now Groove).
But to be fair to MS, this is a good app and replaces Xbox Music. One thing it does, It plays .flac natively for a start. This is a breakthrough, after years of non-support. It's a recognition of open source, and saves having to download codec packs, or having to concert to .alac (iTunes anyone??!!)
It's a smooth interface and works well on my Lumia 950XL.

This deal is pretty good as Groove has a pretty extensive music collection. Heat from me

I'm still waiting for my code. Anyone else had theirs yet?

I got mine two weeks ago and it worked.

People, Be warned!!!

MS Charged me even though I turned off Auto-renewal once I received my code.

Like unigamer I came across a promo (which typically I cant find now!!!) that said 1 month free trial and get a code for 3 months more during the first month trial.

I too set a reminder to cancel the auto renew but got my code within a week, logged into my ms account and verified that my auto renew date wasn't for another 3 or more months and noticed I could turn auto renew off there and then so I did.

logged into paypal today to find MS had billed me ???

spent an hour on chat support only to be told the promo is buy 1 month get 4 months free but I know that is not what I signed up for even if it is now. ( I am already on Google music and have been since it started)

I will use this image you guys have posted as evidence im not the only 1.

So it seems we have to start taking screenshots of the banners/promo's we click now days , things are getting out of hand.

I also found the attached image which cant be the 1 i saw seeing as it expired in june but feels the most like the 1 I saw.

If anyone else has had a similar issue please let me know... I want to stick it to MS ... This is BS!!!!
