"As part of Microsoft Corp.s commitment to education, the company is introducing a promotion inviting students who are actively enrolled at educational institutions and have a valid e-mail address from the institution to purchase Microsoft® Office Ultimate 2007 at a student price of $59.95 (U.S.). The Ultimate Steal promotion will run in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States starting today and in France, Italy and Spain starting Sept. 20, 2007. The promotion will end April 30, 2008."

I'm not sure what the $59.95 will end up as in Sterling - probably £59.95 :(

Okay, so I've followed all the links yet can't find anywhere to buy it?

The 'Steal' webpage lets you register but that's only to advise when the offer goes live - when you register it tells you the deal is live but that's all, no emails or links???

I agree the layout is so poorly designed (I already have Office 2007 Academic version) but you can revert back to the OLD system of navigation which is what i use. Also I have noticed that the file sizes for 2007 are smaller than the older 1997-2003 version!

Unless you actually need the specific applications for your course then open source is the way to go for poor students. Openoffice has a full suite of apps comparative to MS Office and totally free.

In fact there's a CD you can download free using bittorent aimed at students that has shed loads of opensource applications... check it out here

Free.... for poor people

Open Office http://www.openoffice.org/

OpenOffice.org is a multiplatform and multilingual office suite and an open-source project. Compatible with all other major office suites, the product is free to download, use, and distribute. OpenOffice.org also works transparently with a variety of file formats, including those of Microsoft Office

still don't seem to be able to access it. Just sits on the page saying now available

OpenOffice is NOT perfect, and imo not better than Office - i'd like to see it's equivalent to Publisher, for example...

Did you order the physical disk or are you going to download it?
#20
£38.95 to own it out right

or £12.95 a year.

Deal title needs to be changed
#21
how much is it to get a physical disk sent instead of downloading it
#22
Luckily for me I can get this for £17 from Microsoft through the "Microsoft Home Use Program"....I think my company must have a big contract with them!

are there any students who don't want this but would be willing to get it for me and I could pay them back with a bit extra for their trouble?

I wanted the physical disc but in my haste i must have missed the bit where i could request it. Never mind i have it downloaded, just need to install it now and it will still work the same.
#26
So US, Canadian and Australian students get it for £30... we pay £39. :x If I didn't have a fully functional FREE office suite (openoffice.org) I might have been tempted, but the pricing annoys me!

It is no where to be found on the site. Whats the point in having the option?
I rang Microsoft and asked why, they said it was maintenance problem. They also told me that this is a third party site which doesnt have anything to do with them.
The lady I spoke to also told me she would send me a link of resellers (verified by Microsoft), so I may be able to get it cheaper.
#28
Why not just download it and burn it to a cd or dvd?

It's not as bad as it could be though. We normally get ripped off compared to US prices, and in this case the VAT alone seems to bring the US price to around £35.25, so only a few quid difference.
#30
So staff can't get it then?

If anyone wanted to buy this at the college I worked at they would be snookered since we don't provide email to students :whistling:

Well technically it is only for students at Higher Education, and most, if not all universities give out email address to their students so I think it would be fine for most people!

I like the idea that if they found out that you're not a student, you could be liable to pay £599.99 retail price! That might actually enforce it as a student only deal.
#32
Yeah, like they're going to check when they're furthering their monopoly. ;)

hahaha, yeah good point but still lol :-D
#34
where do you say you want the disk? I cannot find it

and its not like the other academic ones where you can install it on more than one :(

ill still just buy it for the crack, at 93% discount its crazy stuff
#35
Any chance one of the Admins could update the title of this post to now read:

Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate for £38.95 (Univeristy Students Only)

and change the link to be:

http://www.theultimatesteal.co.uk

This is a fantastic deal and it is being missed becuase it is not well labeled...
#36
im in college so can i get it?
Edit: university students only ignore.
#37
People, the student pack does have a considerable number of locks on functionality that some users may require.

For example, if your're a developer you cannot register objects within the source code page, in the event that you want to develop anything more than the simplest of Macro. If you don't know what this is then buy it, but power users - be aware of this.

No, you don't have to be a university student. ANY student on at least a half-time course can apply.
