do u not have to be a student to buy?????
#2
I was gonna ask the same thing

Good price - average seems to be around £80. I think you are supposed to be a student, but since there is no verification how can they check? There was also Office 2007 for Vista for £48. I need both - could get them both for the price of one from here - as long as you can live without the box......
#4
why is it so cheap?
#5
Greetings.

It is so cheap because it is an educational licence and I would assume that there is verification because one has to input which educational establishment you (or your children) attend.

If you are a student you can get an official version of the microsoft word/excel package etc. here from theultimate steal which is a special offer being run by Microsoft until the end of this month. Its only £12.98 for a 1 year licence or £38.95 for a licence forever. I know its a bit more expensice but its an official deal rather than this slightly dodgy deal that could be stopped if MS realise that you aren't an educational facility.

This may be a silly question but could you use this on more than one computer?

It comes with a serial number that you enter when you install.
I have installed previous versions of office on a couple of different machines with no trouble. Don't know about this version but worth a try.

I thought MAC owners had a bit more savvy than to buy MS software.
#13
legally you need to be a student to use this
#14
the site is down at the mo, but I am sure it says something along the lines of "if you have someone living in the house who is in full time education, or employed in education" then you are eligible.

Webside is working again now :)
#17
wish it did say

who is in full time education, or employed in education

its only those who are in education, not those employed by education

so fine for students, teachers aren't entitled
#18
I have bought from them before and the rules are that you or someone within your household must be attending school (i.e. 5 - 18 or University/College). Definitely the cheapest place to get Office 2008 for Macs, if you are or have a child who is a student!

Excellent Deal...

The website insists that you give the name of the student and select their school from a list before you can order. Therefore easy for them to check and not a free-for-all. Still, a good deal if you or your kids are at school/college/uni.

Remember that with this software - if you are not a student or member of an educational establishment, then buying this software is absolutely no different to buying or downloading pirated versions off bit torrent or usenet etc. In addition, the licencee of the software must be the one at the school/uni etc - so for example you can't be a parent who has a child at school and buy this unless you are buying it for them, and they are the primary user - thats not covered by the licence.

Educational software is licenced to students/teachers etc only, and for people who fall into that category its a great deal :)

If I buy the Vista Ultimate upgrade (I am a student btw!) do I need Vista on my machine already in order to upgrade? Will it work if I am upgrading from XP?

People who want the office suite on a mac without paying the price of microsoft office could try the neo office, its not for everyone but worth a look. http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php

What bunkem. You do not have to be a student to buy this software. This offer is openly intended for use by both students AND PARENTS, and it's perfectly legitimate for either to make the purchase. That's why they make it easy to do so! Although the software is formally licenced to the student, who retains ownership, it doesn't matter who actually uses it within the home, or how often. The vendor's registration confirms this:-
"Any home user can benefit from these discounts providing that you know or are the guardian of someone in any level of education."

As for teachers and staff, they have nothing to do with this offer - they are covered by separate Microsoft "Work at Home" schemes.

If you know anyone that works for the NHS (and has an NHS email address) you can always get Office 2007 for £17 here

I didn't say that you had to be a student to buy it - but that to be covered by the licence you have to be one. Buying one just because you have a child at school for example would be seen as a breach of the licence if it is for the parents personal use..end of. Parents can buy it for their child ofc and still use it if it not intended solely for the parents personal usage - and i suspect that they mention parents specifically as most school children can't afford to buy it themselves :)

edit: note that this applies at time of purchase, as its a perpetual licence :)

Its largely an academic point anyway as its not as if Microsoft will come knocking on your door, but if the primary user is not a student when you get the licence then the licence isn't valid.

Exchange support is not part of the Student package. That is only available on the Standard or Special Media versions, which should not be sold under student licences. What is actually being sold here?
#28
I wonder why the earlier 2004 version for the mac is more expensive.

Maybe because it has a black box! ooooooh
like the black and white macbooks - the black's more expensive!

here's the link to the £44 2004 version for comparison!

and they now offer (from 1st April) Office for the Mac 2008 for the same price.

FYI This is the full version of Office, and not the Home & Student edition which contains three licenses. Viglen also offer this suite for around £50.

It's Mac not MAC. Mac is not an acronym, it's short for Macintosh.

Thanks for the comment.
We Mac users also accept that we have to use MS products. Product meets my needs so why would I not use it? I also use Numbers & Pages as an alternative.:-D

why is it so cheap?
Because it's the crack dealer's first fix. Spooked by brilliant free alternatives such as OpenOffice (which use a file format that can interoperate with other products), Microsoft is desperate to get the young (i.e. students) hooked on its software. Only when it is too late do they find out that all their documents are in a proprietary, closed format, and they are forced forever more to buy overpriced Microsoftware to be able to access their own data - and even then, there is no guarantee...

got mine delivered, it's great piece of kits. Thanks for posting

Forgive me for asking, I've just bought a copy of this so thanks for the post, but could I buy another copy and be able to use it on another Mac?

I only ask as a friend of mine also has a Mac and would like a copy of Office 2008, so was wondering if I'd be able to place a second order for him as he doesn't know anyone in education. Would this still work on his Mac or is there any registration info that you have to enter when installing the software? Ta very much.
