The criteria here are very wide, my gf mum could get the software on account of some adult learning she does, and she is in her sixties!..

Yes, but that was for the download, this is for the DVD ;)

Very very nice deal, I may consider this one. Can split the costs with my other mac owning housemate!

isnt MS Office always around this price on S4S website?
#7
Hmmm, I'm wondering if it's worth paying £40 for it or just downloading it... Is this the same as the Home User Programme that was in the NHS, or is it the full software? It's so readily available on the internet I'm surprised anyone buys it to be honest.

Students getting a poor deal for once :) I can get this through work HUP scheme for £8.95 (and the Windows version) :D

You buy Apple because it works, and then put Microsoft rubbish on top? No thanks.

Agree with big b0y. Go and download Neo Office for free.

Wait I thought Mac fanboys hated Microsoft?

Just make sure you dont prematurely turn off your machine while Outlook is open, unless you like reinstalling things.

Are you sure? It seems that only Office 2008 is available on Mac via HUP.

I have recently bought a new MBP and have been struggling with Pages/Numbers etc. To be honest its worth practising because they are better than the MS equivalents. IMO anyway.

Plus the Home User Program is only available whilst you are an employee, AND whilst the organisation is still signed up for the program. The NHS recently opted out of it, and everyone who had it have been told to uninstall it. Obviously most people don't read the Terms and Conditions and don't realise this, which technically means you're running illegal software.

In short, the HUP is not a full licence.

This is utterly pointless and you both may as well run a copy you downloaded illegally. You are paying for software which is then not actually licensed.

Why would you pay all that money for a mac and then put microsoft software on it??? doesn't make a lot of sense to me, you may as well save some money and get a non mac laptop.....

Actualy, S4S caters for FAMILY of students too so it would be licensed.

Doesn't the iWork software come free with macs? If so, you're paying £40 for inferior software!

Hmm, reading the site it caters for parents/grandparents (and guardians) buying the software however the child/grandchild is the licensee, but it doesn't specify what that means ultimately. It also says you can only install on a second device for the exclusive use of the primary user. It doesn't say whether or not the licensee has to be the primary user or even what "primary user" means (does it mean the child has to use the software more frequently than the adult?). A grey area.

By all means you can gloss over this, but I reckon if you do that you may as well pirate it, although I suppose you might get a warm-fuzzy feeling for handing money over to Microsoft. oO

Anyway, it's definitely not legit for a brother-in-law (unless he is your guardian, "I am not my brother-in-law's keeper", etc).

Because, believe it or not, lots of businesses etc use Powerpoint, Word, etc for everything. Using Office for Mac just eases compatibility issues etc. A lot of people will buy this just for Outlook 2011 too, as the Mail app is pure garbage.

Office 2011 won't be available on any HUP until next month at the earliest, so it's either this or wait for now.

Nope, that would iLife. Compared with Office, iWork is on the level of Microsoft Works. No use for serious work and only Keynote offers anything like polish. Numbers is a joke.

Office 2008 was a tremendous slug of a performer. The difference between that and 2011 is like night and day. Just be aware that like Office 2010 there is no support in Outlook for Exchange Server 2003 if your workplace is running that. Quite a lot of people have been caught out on that.

It was totally licenced to get it in my daughters name (shes 8)...

You have to input th students DOB and what school they attend! They even had the infant option.. so obviously this software really is for anyone!!
#28
I highly recommend that no one buys this. Three days after upgrading from Office 2008 to 2011 I switched to iWork as it was that bad. This software is no less than buggy crap - avoid!

With regards to the Mail.app not being that great, give Sparrow a go. It's based on the Tweetie for Mac UI and works brilliantly despite still being in beta.
