Microsoft Equipt is a subscription based package of Office, Communication and Security software.

It was launched in October 2008 and sold exclusively by DSGi, so available from places such as PC World with an RRP of £59.99, with each additional year of subscription to the suite costing a further £59.99.

Microsoft has announced that it is discontinuing Equipt on 30th April 2009.

As a result everyone who already owns the software is eligible for a pro-rata refund from Microsoft (upto £59.99).

In addition when they post the cheque they are also including a full 3-user copy of Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007 which is for life (as opposed to while your subscription is active in the Equipt version).

Now if you already own Equipt, make sure you apply for the refund and Office 2007 at:

http://www.microsoft.com/equipt/ - Just follow the link, log in and tell them your address... it's very easy!

For everybody else, if you can find a copy of Microsoft Equipt laying around in a Currys or PC World grab it!

You can still install the software, register and will instantly be eligible to request the full refund of £59.99 and a free copy of Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007.

If you can find a copy anywhere else, such as Amazon or eBay... grab it! I got my father a copy for £45 on eBay which will give him £15 profit, and Office!

Good Luck!

Good IF you can find a copy, However worth a heads up.

Worth noting it is a pro-rated refund as stated so this doesnt mean the full amount unless you register it a week beforehand... I dint think you will get the full amount if you register today?

EDIT: Actually Im confused. I think its pro-rated to october for UNUSED months so the sooner you request a refund the more you get? Hmmm...

Edit edit: Well, I guess its unused months of a whole year from registration so basically if you register today you should get 12 months but will only get 2 months so need to be given 10 months refund. Phew - that was hard work!

superb - just bought a new copy.

Thanks for heads up

Don't forget - refund PLUS new copy of Office

terrible product idea.
pay every year to subscribe to office 2007?
when you can actually buy a copy that doesnt expire for about the same price as this pack sold for?

No, pay every year and get the latest copies of the software. It's more attractive to business users who don't strictly qualify for the Office Home & Student version - full-blown Office is around £350.

Does anyone know if this is pro-rated based on the number of unused months up to the point you apply for the refund or up until the 30th April?:?

i bought it off ebay the other day, installed it, went to the subscriber centre and put in my claim.........

Time remaining on subscription: 12 months
Estimated refund amount: £59.99 (plus estimated tax)

assumably the estimated tax would be the VAT so total estimated refund according to that would be £68.98
PLUS the free copy of office.
BARGAIN!! only paid £50 delivered for it

Thanks for a quick reply. Was not sure whether to install straight away or wait until April. Guess I won't gain anything by waiting until April.

Hi. I have just registered on this site to let you know that I have just received my refund and Office 2007 CD.

The Cheque was for £70.49 (£59.99 +17.5% VAT!).

I bought my copy of Equipt from Ebay for a total of £43 & requested my refund on 19th Feb. Although Microsoft say it will take 4 - 6 weeks for the refund, I got mine in 13 days.

In effect, Microsoft have paid me £27.49 to take a copy of Office Home & Student 2007 off their hands.

I have been folowing a thread on a similar site in the USA. Over there, they have been buying up the remaining stocks of Equipt from "Circuit City" which has now gone bust. Circuit City have been discounting their stock by 50%.

Some of them said they were buying up all they could, in the hope of flogging the full version on Ebay after claiming their refund. Unfortunately for them, Microsoft later added a clause, saying that you could only claim "one per household".

didnt you need a receipt to claim the refund?

Nope. It's all done over the interrnet. Once you have registered the software with Microsoft, you can immediately claim your refund. It doesn't matter how much you originally paid for it, the refund will be the same, £59.99 + VAT.

Here's Microsoft's FAQ about Equipt:-
http://office.microsoft.com/client/helppreview.aspx?AssetID=HA102563441033&ns=qwzx10&lcid=1033

Just make sure that the package is sealed when you buy it. Some members on the American site mentioned above bought unsealed copies. When they tried to register the software, they were told that it had already been registered.
#15
Well, just bought one from eBay.

Thanks for the heads up, we'll see how this goes :)

To prevent overwriting my current Office 2003 used on my main pc, I installed the Equipt files on another pc I had which had just had a clean installation of XP. I needn't have worried though, as you don't have to install the Office files before you register. The only files that were installed were NET Framework 3.0 (which took about 15 - 20 minutes).

Then you go through the registration process (which also becomes your Windows Live ID account). You can then request your refund. I then cancelled the installation (or I may have just removed the CD, I can't remember). The next time I booted the pc, it asked if I wanted to carry on with the installation. I said "no".

Just for clarification - The copies of Equipt were recalled from DSGi stores (PC World / Currys) so the odds of finding them are very low.

Just bought myself a copy off of ebay for £51 all in.

You will struggle to find them in store (I have had no luck in either Currys or PC World) but there are plenty on eBay at around £50 compared to the DSG price of £59.99.

If you register and claim your refund straight away you will get £59.99 + VAT back from Microsoft plus a free copy of Office 2007. Seemed like a no brainer to me.

Already done this for my own PC and my mother-in-law's PC (at her address obviously as it is one per household) and I am just waiting for the cheques.

Thanks to the OP. :-D

I was surprised that the cheques & CD are actually posted from the USA (San Leandro, California). I thought that Microsoft would have sent them from the UK. They are sent by FedEx Express and need to be signed for.
#21
Equipt recieved.
Registered.
Claimed for refund.
thanks
:)

Too late to do this? Completely forgot!
#23
its a worldwide option or just UK & US ?

Edit : Corporations are not eligible for this offer, and there is no shipping available to PO Boxes. This offer is only available in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Be aware that It says on the Microsoft Equipt site:

"You may be asked to provide proof of purchase before we process your refund." AND

"If you purchased Equipt from an unauthorized seller, purchased a used copy, or purchased a promotional copy of Equipt, you are not eligible for a refund. Please contact the seller who sold you this copy of Equipt"

Hi I just wanted to get clarification on the subscription costs,

Do you have to give card details to start the subscription and then register?

Is the new office package they send free and not tied to a subscription.

If I buy a new sealed equipt package now and register it when it arrives will i get the full refund of 59.99?

Thanks

Still plenty of time to do this I think. The Equipt service ends on the 30th April 2009 so no service will be available after that date. There is no explicit closing date for the refund but I would think you would be pretty safe up until the 30th April.

I have had my £70.49 refund and Office Home & Student 2007 CD and am happy as Larry as it only cost me just over £50.

Hmm...that wasn't there when I bought my copy. I think it's been added because some greedy Americans have been buying multiple, heavily discounted copies from Circuit City, & then claiming multiple refunds. It shouldn't affect someone claiming on a single copy.

You don't have to give any card details or anything like that. The purchase price of the software also pays for your first years subscription. There's nothing else to pay.

The Office CD they send you is not tied to any subscriptions. You can use it indefinately without any extra payments, just as you would if you bought it in a shop (only without any fancy packaging). It does say on the paperwork (although not on the CD itself) that it's "NFR - Internal use only". I assume NFR means "Not For Resale".

I registered mine on 19th Feb & got the full refund of £59.99 + VAT (£70.49).

LOL. I know what you mean. I actually used this offer on behalf of my sister. I am still using Office 2003 myself. My Sister had a trial version of Office 2007 on her laptop, so when I got my free CD, I just used the key to convert her trial version to a full version.

I also downloaded a small utility program which provides all the PDM's etc. that you would find on Office 2003. You activate it by clicking on "Add Ins".

Can I ask what the name of the utility program was?

there are some more on ebay now on buy it now for approx £55 delivered.

I just bought one of those Satnam. There was 10 on sale so plenty left.

I got it delivered at home so I won't have it for 3 weeks but my university address has 2 postcodes so I don't trust delivering stuff here. I did however use my dad's credit card by accident (I didn't realise I hadn't updated my Paypal) so he isn't going to be happy! On the bright side I had over £12 in Paypal which I'd forgotten was there.
