Note: A valid credit card is required to join and....

When you sign up for a Microsoft Office Live account, Microsoft performs a $1 authorization check on your credit card to verify that the card information you are using is valid and up to date. A temporary $1 charge may appear on your online credit card statement for a short period, but will not appear on your final billing statement for that period.

A lot of companies do this now. They refund the $1 so your not actually paying anything.

I know, just pointing it out so people dont start saying they are having money taken from them
#4
did it weeks ago through quidco .................... never tracked surprise surprise:roll:
#5
sounds good

I took up this offer back in October and the £5 did not track immediately and I had to put in an inquiry. I now have my fiver. The services offered are pretty good too. Free domains, hosting and web build templates etc.
#7
hi gezmek, so can you build a website on your own and upload it to their server? Will they put ads on your website? And how do they make money off you or is it really "free"?
#8
what's the catch? are you stuck with them and then have to start paying a monthly fee after certain free period expires or something?

good deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I signed this up more than a month ago.................
NEVER GOT TRACKED ON QUIDCO!!!
#11
I joined before xmas and it failed to track. When I submitted an inquiry this was rejected but no reasoning was given. Not impressed with the cashback side but the services offered were good.

A thread is required IMHO to post the best deals through quidco where you can actually come out on top.

I took out an NWIS (natwest) home insurance contents policy that cost £60 and quidco of £100

A&L savings account - £20 for succesfull application - will never use it

Goldfish Credit card- £41 for successfull application - used once

No Catch. They are hoping that you later opt for more paid services and upgrade. Yes, you can upload to the domain. You can even transfer in your existing domain for free hosting. The free domain that you get from them can be transfererred out but I think that I am right in saying that you must be registered for at least 60 days before you have that option. It also includes up to 500MB of storage space.

I think it's a good deal. Take time to trawl through the large, and sometimes confusing, site and check it out. I am using it and am happy with the deal.
#14
Don't suppose you can add a cart to the site?
#15
I registered 28 Sep 2007 and was paid Nov 1. Besides the free fiver you're getting much more besides...a free domain FOREVER + free associated email addresses forever + free website design etc. Can't argue with that.

Not sure what all the griping is about. (I haven't been charged for anything since, apart from the credit card check).

I went with this offer back in August & did enquire a couple of months later about transferring out the domain name - got told it wasn't possible.

My quidco tracked in September & paid in November.

Uploading with Frontpage or other standalone editors is possible.

haven't seen any 'gripes', just questions to try and ascertain whether there might be hidden later payments. Thanks for those who have added constructive answers to those questions.

Anyone have a problem chossing a .com address? Notice this message when I search for one:

When selecting a regional domain name, it is important to enter your sign-up information correctly. Incorrect information (for example, the wrong ZIP code) will result in delayed or failed domain name registration.

Does this mean we can only get a free .co.uk address..?
#21
has been posted before. i got mine fiva long back. still great if you want £5 for nothing
#22
I think after reading the response that the domain name cannot be transferred out so the safest bet is to get your own domain name and transfer in your existing website for them to host to avoid being stuck with them in case anything goes wrong in the future.

I also did this over three months ago, and it never tracked. Still a ticket waiting with quidco :-( if Microsoft don't pay the affiliate company, I guess Quidco can't pay us :-( come on Bill - give some money back lol
#25
Be warned. I took up this offer via Quidco. It took months for it to track, & there's a very good chance you'll never see the money unless you keep an eye on it. :whistling:

It's free though so nothing to lose!

This has been posted many times. It's an ok deal for free if you just want to have a basic website and want to use it as a personal site. However if you want to use it for business or require more advanced featuers i'd personally give it a miss and look for a paid hosting package where you have a little more control over your domain in the future.

Needless to say you cannot take the offer with Linux.

You can add Paypal Checkout to a site as I have done so before.

Paypal Buy It Now Buttons also work. Message me if you need to know how.

I'll add that I signed up for this months ago. Tracked quickly and it's been paid.

Well I think its a good offer for a free domain name .. and lets hope that after all you guys have ad problems with the quidco its all sorted now:)
#32
Microsoft are bricking themselves. Google Apps kicks ass. Domain for $10, unlimeted email after that. I worked out our company could save £5k a year using that rather than exchange. That Microsoft site you get is useless. You have to use their retarded WYSIWYG editor for the website.

If you want a free fiver great but if you want email and website, its rubbish.
#33
Did this last sept tracked no problem got paid out in nov.
#34
Signed up a while ago before Quidco was involved... Forgor my password and can't find any email I got from them. Can't even recall which address I used do my site is somewhat undeveloped!

That's what comes from having too many "potential mythering" email addresses!

Feel daft now.
#35
HERE'S THE CATCH >> Be aware that you will really get tied in to theie way of doing things. They seriously limit your website unless you sign up for the more expensive product. You could ene up causing your self a lot of problems. If you go with the MS basic solution and find it to be rubbish (which it is) then your website name will have to be transfered away from MS and that can take a lot of time espcially if you don't know much about websites. The basic site is really ugly, very limited and hard to update. I would advise people to go elsewhere and spend a few quid if they want a simple website.
#36
anyone got an example of a website produced by this?

seems to me like buying a 2 year domain name from 123-reg for £2 might be more sensible. still, spend the £5 you earn on that, and keep the £3 :D

Google Apps does indeed look interesting. Unfortunately when I try to sign up for the free version, and check availability for a domain name, I get a server error, and it tells me to try later, which I have without any joy. Doesn't bode well for it's reliability. Shame.

theres the main reason why most pople including me wont sign up,you are stuck with them, not being able to even transfer out even your own domain name(if transferring in) is very poor and if that doesnt ring alarm bells then nothing will.

thanks again - site set up and happy with it. If you feel like reading poetry or have a poem you'd like me to list on the site (any kind fine, including kids poetry), please do so at www.quirkypoetry.com Thanks - rep added!

Office Live is cobblers.

You have to use their pre-determined templates, and have very little control over the look of your website.

And then when you realise it's cobblers, you can't get the url back from them for three months (minimum). It took me nearer six months to get the url back so I could use it with a proper hosting company.
